Job Details

Reporting to the Cambridge Site Lead for Site Affairs and External Partnerships, the Director of External Outreach and Technology Platforms will lead and facilitate a wide array of activities related to external alliances, establishing partnerships with key business and scientific networks, and provide leadership over the site's newly developed scientific technology platforms. He/She will partner with Site Leadership to illustrate and communicate our commitment to scientific excellence, innovation and technology. The position will work closely with senior leaders and other staff within the Pfizer Cambridge R&D site to enhance Pfizer's presence in the Cambridge/Boston biomedical ecosystem and leverage Pfizer scientific technology platforms to broadly support science in the Cambridge community.


In a position of high visibility, the Outreach and Technology Platform Lead will be responsible for building Pfizer's Scientific Reputation in the Cambridge Ecosystem and leading the KSQ (Kendall Square) Technology platforms as outlined below.

External Outreach and building Pfizer scientific reputation

+ In partnership with Site Affairs Lead, develop and implement a systematic approach to expanding Pfizer's external outreach in the Cambridge ecosystem building upon existing and creating new relationships to support the scientific goals of the Kendall Square site (Cambridge, MA).

+ Create and maintain a network database of top-priority academic partners across Pfizer's therapeutic areas of interest and key business partnerships and associations that would benefit the Kendall Square site and RU (Research Unit) portfolio.

+ Implement a site-wide patient foundation partnership strategy with patient advocacy groups in collaboration with Research Units and Medical Affairs

+ Represent Pfizer at local business and community associations (e.g. Kendall Square Association, MassBio, Cambridge Chamber of Commerce) and through interactions with leadership at local academic and biomedical centers

+ Represent KSQ site and our portfolio speaking to internal senior leaders and external stakeholders

+ With an understanding of Pfizer's KSQ portfolio, develop an engagement strategy to support technology gaps through connections to the Cambridge network

+ Provide logistical support for ad hoc events and coordinate visits and tours to the Kendall Square site

+ Responsible for Pfizer Cambridge's Site Responsibility programs that support local need, aligned with Pfizer's mission and viewed as engaging to Kendall Square colleagues

+ Establish scientific seminar and symposium platform for our scientific staff to engage other academic and biotech groups.

+ Develop program assessment tools that will measure Pfizer impact on the community, and increase colleague interaction with the Cambridge ecosystem. Prepare reports and business justification for funding, as needed.

Lead for Pfizer Technology Platforms

+ Lead for the Site Technology Centers responsible for ensuring delivery of the vision and drive impact to the RU portfolio from the current technology centers that were established for FACS (Fluorescence Activated Cell Sorting), High Content Imaging, Optical Microscopy, MassSpec proteomics and Next Generation Sequencing

+ Partner with RUs and Partner Lines, Global Operations (GO), Site Operations, EHS (Environmental Health and Safety), and Legal to effectively manage the Site's Tech Core Laboratory space and deliverables

+ Develop comprehensive data analytics support map and identify solutions for technology platforms to ensure support for all RU projects and maximize value of data generated

+ Strategic financial tracking and deployment of the site Technology Center capital and LIS (Laboratory Services) budgets to maximize value of the investment and impact to the portfolio

+ In partnership with Site Leadership, make recommendations for evolution of the Technology Centers to meet needs of the portfolio. This would include assessment of technologies across the Research Units and make recommendations based on improving portfolio impact, or driving efficiency, capital deployment or resource utilization.

+ Develop value-based metrics to track impact and accountable for delivering measureable impact to portfolio


+ Ph.D. in scientific field strongly preferred. Advanced degree in scientific field is a minimal requirement.

+ Minimum of 5-8 years of work experience in drug discovery required; preference for colleague that has worked in the Cambridge scientific community, and track record for partnerships in the local ecosystem.

+ Demonstrated experience in creating and supporting external partnerships, academic and/or business alliances is required

+ Working knowledge of High Content Imaging, Optical Microscopy, Next Generation Sequencing, FACS or other technology platforms is preferred

+ Demonstrated experience of successfully working in matrix environment is required

+ Sincere commitment to work collaboratively with all constituent groups

+ Highly collaborative style; experience developing and implementing outreach and partnership strategies

+ Excellent writing/editing and verbal communication skills

+ A strong track record as an implementer who thrives on managing a variety of key initiatives concurrently

+ Self-starter, able to work independently, and entrepreneurial; enjoys creating and implementing new initiatives

+ Ability to multitask in a fast paced dynamic environment while demonstrating a resourceful, positive attitude and superior work ethic
