This role will assist the controller in directing the company’s accounting functions, to include establishing and maintaining the organization's accounting principles, practices, policies, controls and procedures to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP.  Oversees the preparation and evaluation of financial operating reports and presents findings and recommendations to Controller. 


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for timely closing of monthly books and records
    • This includes directing the closing process, reviewing journal entries, reconciling balances and ensuring accuracy by reviewing financial statements, investigating account variations and verifying account balances, preparation and analysis of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP
  • Maintain the company’s general ledger and supporting records, including reviewing the monthly reconciliation of all accounts and subsidiary ledgers
  • Design and maintain internal controls to safeguard the company’s assets and ensure that transactions are executed in accordance with company guidelines
  • Design and maintain internal controls to prevent inaccuracies in accounting statements
  • Enforce, support and seek to enhance the internal controls of the Company
  • Identify, investigate and analyze potential operational improvements
  • Make proposals for operational changes (policy, procedures, processes, etc.)
  • Help prepare and deliver training to accounting staff on accounting methods and software use
  • Manage accountants including the assignment of duties and review of work
  • Oversee accounts payable function and accounts payable supervisor
  • Research applicable accounting standards to ensure compliance in recording and reporting of transactions per requirements
  • Work with other departments when accounting information or skills are needed to support ongoing efforts of the Company
  • Work as a key member of the Company’s finance team to assist the Company in reaching targeted goals
  • Prepare routine financial reports and ad-hoc reports for operational review and decision making
  • Manage, coordinate and identify solutions to all non-standard requests and complex issues through high level analyses
  • Will serve as an SME for PeopleSoft & Essbase reporting
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field required (8 additional years of experience in Accounting beyond the required years may be substituted in lieu of degree)
  • Five or more years of increasing accounting responsibilities
  • Three or more years of supervisory experience
  • Ability to work with minimal guidance; seeking guidance on only the most complex tasks
  • Knowledge of research techniques for analyzing data and presenting recommendations
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to perform mathematical computations and compute ratios / percentages accurately and quickly
  • Great communication and management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently under time sensitive deadlines
  • Exhibits great attention to detail and proven ability to organize data effectively
  • Advanced level MS Office skills including Excel, Word and Outlook

Preferred Qualification:

  • Experience in a healthcare or health plan environment
