Midwest Center for Youth and Families is seeking a dynamic and talented Transport Driver

Midwest Center for Youth and Families opened its doors in 1997. Since then, we have been providing high quality care to patients from across the country in our therapeutic residential facility. Our full immersion Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) program specializes in treating males and females, ages 10-20, with behavioral and mental health challenges.

Our unique residential DBT program gives hope to families who care for a loved one that has pervasive emotional, behavioral, or psychiatric challenges that impact their functioning at home, in school, and within the community. We will help patients and their families understand how DBT can take them on a journey which creates a life worth living.

The Transport Driver is responsible for transporting patients to and from medical trips and other destinations.  The ideal candidate must be able to maintain composure while driving patients during rush hour on local freeways, streets and highways.  They must also possess basic automotive maintenance; basic auto repair skills such as ability to change a flat tire, ability to check fluid levels amidst distractions such as noise, conversations and foot traffic.  The Transport Driver must be able to consistently meet deadlines; must be flexible in work hours to meet patient and organization operating needs; must be able to read and comprehend manuals and/or instructions; and maintain transport documentation.  Additionally the Transport Driver must maintain self-control in volatile or hostile customer service interactions and have skills in maintaining highly confidential information.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

1. Provides transportation to patients/residents in a manner that considers safety, patient rights, comfort and the therapeutic environment.

2. Follows directions as given by supervisor and obeys all facility policies and procedures as outlined in policy and procedure manual.

3. Must be comfortable with making long distance round trips and able to work flexible hours as transport needs demand. 

4. Maintains scheduling requirements, attendance and punctuality in accordance with facility and departmental policies.

5. Plans transport time efficiently as possible by utilizing shortest, safest route and the immediate return to the facility.

6. Must be able to inspect the vehicle and equipment before driving; refueling as necessary; and be familiar with the geographical area, use of maps and GPS.

7. Responsible for making accurate entries into vehicle transport log along with credit card receipts upon departure and return of each transport.

8. Makes all documentation clear, concise and timely.  Utilizes appropriate documentation based on training at the facility. Ensures all documentation contains legible signature, date, and time of documentation.

9. Reports to work on time, documents time worked according to organizational policy and follows procedures for reporting absences.

10.Exhibits excellent customer relations skills as evidenced by supportive and constructive communication with all contacts including coworkers, patients, visitors, families and referral sources.

11.Completes all orientation and annual training requirements according to facility policy.

12.Is receptive to supervisory feedback and appropriately utilizes feedback.

13.Recognizes own limitations, seeks information and advice when unable to solve conflicts/problems on an individual basis.

14.Channels concerns appropriately, deals with conflict appropriately and privately.

15.Able to communicate with other staff, visitors, and patient/residents with compassion and courtesy.  Demonstrates good skills in all forms of communication.

16.Participates and maintains facility safety standards and culture.

17.Is knowledgeable of Patients’ Rights and Psychiatric Mental Health Standards of Care and treats all patients with dignity and respect in a consistent, caring manner.

18.Maintains neat professional appearance and punctuality in accordance with hospital and departmental policies.

Job Requirements

1. High school diploma or equivalency diploma required.

2. Must be at least 21 years of age.

3. Must have valid Indiana driver’s license and meet the Fleet Program policy requirements.
