Job Description

The ECT Nurse Manager (RN) delivers quality general and psychiatric nursing care to patients for treatment of psychiatric or emotional disorders. The ECT Registered Nurse Manager prescribes, coordinates and delegates nursing care utilizing the nursing process that is integrated into the multidisciplinary treatment team plan of care. The ECT Registered Nurse Manager is accountable for assigned nursing care activities on a shift basis and is responsible for promoting and enhancing professional nursing practice on the unit.

Responsibilities include:

  • Formulates nursing plan of care within 8 hours of admission noting patient needs, age, behaviors and concerns identified through nursing assessment. 

  • Follows ECT prep log making sure all steps have been noted and performed; i.e., precert, benefits verifications, calling anesthesia, M.D.’s office, patient, etc.

  • Supervising ECT staff by making assignments and monitoring patient care

  • Providing quality nursing care to meet identified patient outcomes

  • Carrying out assigned functions according to philosophy, goal and objectives of the hospital and program unit

  • Contributing as an active part of the treatment team

Job Requirements

This opportunity is available to individuals who meet the following requirements:

Education:                              Graduate of an accredited nursing program.  BSN preferred. 

Experience:                             One-year prior psychiatric experience in mental health nursing preferred.

Licensure/Certification:         Licensure and registration by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse.

Knowledge:                             Must possess knowledge of general and psychiatric nursing processes, therapeutic relationships and processes, age specific growth and development, limit setting, crisis and behavior management and CPR training.

  • Ability to supervise ECT staff in aspects of direct clinical care is required
  • Skills in clinical evaluation, decision-making, prioritizing and time management

  • Effective oral and written communication skills and knowledge of telephone etiquette is required

  • Ability to interact in a positive manner and to communicate well with patients, families, co-workers, supervisor and other hospital employees

  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions

  • Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift & grasp

  • Successful completion Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) & CPR within 90 days of employment
