Reporting to the Director of Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), this position is responsible for developing, managing and assisting with EHS environmental health and safety program(s) with a specific emphasis on Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Department of Transportation (DOT), Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA), International Air Transport Association (IATA) and other federal, state and local EHS regulations. This position contributes to the Company's efforts to comply with applicable rules, regulations, and standards to protect our workforce and the environments in which we work. The EHS Specialist will work in Minnetonka, Minnesota.


Primary Responsibilities:
  • Developing, implementing and monitoring of EHS programs, plans and policies to ensure compliance with applicable, federal, state and local EHS laws, rules and regulations, ordinances and standards
  • Monitoring and reviewing regulatory changes to identify areas that may affect Company operations and liabilities
  • Managing and directing contracted environmental vendors/consultants including industrial hygiene services, regulatory consulting and program development, waste management and disposal and pharmaceutical reverse distribution
  • Working with business entity management and in-house/outside legal counsel for developing compliance strategies and addressing compliance issues
  • Working closely with business entities and Facilities Management to direct all aspects of chemical and pharmaceutical handling and hazardous waste management to promote safety, maintain compliance, increase operating efficiency by assessing processes and cost effectiveness, determining the most suitable method for handling specific types of waste, waste reduction, and ensuring that operating practices are in full compliance with applicable regulations
  • Ensuring all managed facilities comply with environmental regulations and specific programs such as EPCRA, Clean Air and Water Acts, SPCC plans, USDOT, RCRA, Regulated Medical Waste and associated OSHA Standards
  • Ensuring that facilities with regulated equipment have proper equipment licensing and registration with applicable regulatory agencies
  • Working with certain business entities and vendor selection process to ensure that handling, shipment and disposition of Company regulated equipment practices and wastes are in full compliance with applicable regulations
  • Working with Real Estate Services and business entities to establish protocols for new site acquisition, facility decommissions, and equipment decontamination
  • Corresponding with regulatory agencies to submit all required applications, forms, licenses, registrations and permits, and maintaining compliance with applicable regulations
  • Developing standardized EHS protocols/procedures/programs/plans with business entities and Facilities Management
  • Auditing non-administration operations including manufacturing, pharmacy fulfillment, retail, and clinical facilities to evaluate compliance with applicable regulatory requirements
  • Conducting regulatory reporting and responding to formal regulatory complaints
  • Developing in-house resources and/or sourcing, customizing and procuring related courseware
  • Maintaining and updating web-based EHS related information
  • Consulting with internal parties at all levels of the organization, and external parties including insurance and regulatory agencies where appropriate
  • Providing employee safety and health consultation and incident investigations
  • Providing consultation and direction in EHS emergency events
  • Driving the M&A integration process for EHS programs
  • Working collaboratively with other members of the Enterprise Occupational Health and Safety team and other departments within the company

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors of Science degree in safety/environmental science or related technical discipline
  • 3 or more years of EHS knowledge and experience with a specific focus on EHS regulatory requirements and standards
  • 3 or more years of experience with USDOT regulations
  • Basic computer skills, analytic / data analysis skills
  • Ability to travel up to 10%

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or advanced certification
  • Experience with health / safety regulations and standards
  • Experience in healthcare settings
  • USDOT hazardous materials certification
