Position Summary:

Hill Crest Behavioral Health Services is the only freestanding, full-service psychiatric hospital in the Birmingham area. It draws on a rich tradition while staying on the cutting edge of new developments in treating psychiatric illness and enhancing mental health. We treat mental illness, emotional problems, and adults with chemical dependency.

Hill Crest BHS currently has a Environmental Services - Floor Technician Per Diem position available. This person is responsible for performing a variety of cleaning and laundry tasks in accordance with established work routines. Responsible for area, laundry and linen quality control standards and for achieving and excellence in the service provided by the Environmental Services Department. Responsible for working to achieve an excellence in total facility appearance, to include the quality appearance of linens, while caring for the concerns of the patients. Responsible for working within safety structures while performing all tasks.  .

Duties and Accountabilities:

  • Sweeps and mops floors, seeing that all corners and baseboards are clean and free of dirt
  • Cleans and buffs floors when assigned
  • Strips and scrubs floors, refinishes when assigned
  • Vacuums carpets and stairs
  • Spot cleans carpets. Shampoos carpets when assigned
  • Cleans vertical and horizontal surfaces that collect dirt
  • Collects and transports refuse and relines containers
  • Transports dirty linen
  • Cleans tops of windows, door frames and other high places using a ladder when necessary
  • Completed work is neat, accurate, thorough i.e. mop buckets emptied and cleaned out. Carts cleaned
  • Works with a positive, courteous attitude, able to communicate with other staff, patients, and visitors with compassion and courtesy
  • Attends staff meetings
  • All other duties as assigned


  • High School diploma or equivalent.


  • Ability to perform routine duties requiring the ability to write, read and follow written and oral instructions
  • Must work through a 6 month probationary period with an average or above evaluation
  • Ability to stand, bend, walk, climb a 6-foot ladder, lift up to 75 pounds and to withstand the physical strains from the use of all required equipment as related to Environmental Services or Laundry
  • Ability to measure the proper cleaning solutions as related to the specific learning task or laundering functions
  • New hires must be able to attend 1 week New Employee Orientation on day shift, normally 8:00am - 5:00pm Monday through Friday.
  • Must successfully pass background check and drug screen.
