Kempsville Center for Behavioral Health is an 82 bed facility within the city of Norfolk, Virginia. Kempsville Center for Behavioral Health offers comprehensive mental health programs to the Commonwealth of Virginia. Since 1986 we have provide psychiatrically and medically managed acute and residential treatment for children and adolescents with significant impairments in their social and emotional development. We are accredited by The Joint Commission (TJC), and are licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia and The Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS). Kempsville Center for Behavioral Health currently has an Night Nurse Supervisor position available.

The candidate selected will be responsible for the following:

· Provides leadership to the patient care staff and supervises clinical operations to ensure continuity of quality patient care.

· Ensures 24-hour coverage by patient care staff on assigned units.

· Ensures consistent use of the nursing and patient care process in providing quality care and acts as a resource to all nursing and direct care staff. Assists in training patient care staff.

· Provides assessments, nursing care and evaluation of nursing care.

· Collaborates with other department personnel in establishing and complying with resident care standards, policies, procedures and protocols.

· Monitors utilization of resources to provide cost effective care.

· Provides primary channels of communication for Physicians, Therapists, Director of Nursing, and Administrators on the night shift.

· Serves as a role model for patient to observe and learn socially effective values, attitudes and behaviors.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:                Needs basic understanding of and comfort level with medical terminology, residential treatment, clinical science/pathology and psychiatric disorders.  Must know how to gather and analyze data.  Must be articulate, assertive, and able to communicate effectively with families, payers, therapists and physicians both verbally and in writing.  Must also demonstrate initiative, tact and good judgment.  Must be able to acquire clear understanding of treatment priorities and ability to make sound decisions balancing resident and family needs with available resources.  Must have basic computer skills.

Education:                     Graduation from an approved School of Nursing, which confers RN, AD, or Diploma in Nursing.

Licensure/                      Licensed by Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse, CPR, certification, or able to complete certification.

Certification:                    

Experience:                        One year psychiatric nursing experience preferred.  One year supervisory experience preferred.

Physical

Requirements:               Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

The incumbent must by physically capable of providing direct total physical care to unpredictable, potentially violent, mentally ill patients as necessary including lifting, supporting, running towards or away from areas where problems are occurring, and pushing and pulling equipment, such as, wheelchairs, stretchers, and beds. Ability to perform CPR, First Aid, and the facility approved Crisis Intervention Procedures.
