Sodexo Campus Dining has an opportunity for a salaried Catering Executive Chef (Executive Chef 1) for a beautiful account located at Colorado Mesa University. This campus encompasses 86 acres in the heart of Grand Junction, CO. Nestled between mountains and high-desert canyons, the area is home to some of the best outdoor recreation in the country and enjoys 300 days of sunshine a year!  This is a growing campus where food operations include resident dining for 2000 students, as well as retail food outlets and a dynamic growing catering program. 

                  

Reporting to our Executive Chef 2, Catering Executive Chef will work with an hourly production staff of up to 15.  This position will primarily focus on hands-on catering production (90% in the kitchen) but will also assist as needed in resident dining.  In addition, from mid June to mid August you will have the opportunity to work at Aspen Music School/Festival located in breathtaking Aspen, CO where the account with provide you with room and board!  We are seeking an organized culinarian who is familiar with current food trends, has excellent presentation skills and enjoys being engaged with the client, students and customer.**Key attributes for being our successful Executive Chef is to be a solid communicator and have the ability to interact with all levels from the University President and Board of Trustees to the front-line staff.

 

Reporting to the campus Executive Chef 2, the ideal candidate will have:

  • 2+ years of culinary management or supervisory experience in campus dining, catering, or fine dining.
  • Strong hands on culinary skills and creativity in menu development and plate design/presentation.
  • Proven leadership ability.
  • Passion for food; self-starter attitude; desire to learn and grow.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Strong working knowledge of food safety/sanitation and following HACCP compliance.
  • Culinary degree (preferred), but not mandatory.

Position Summary

Provides culinary leadership within a small sized unit including menu planning, program execution and staff management & training.  Works directly with internal and external clients managing the catering process from beginning through execution
Key Duties
-Executes the culinary function
-Customer & Client satisfaction
-Manages food & physical safety program.

 

Qualifications & Requirements

Basic Education Requirement - Associate's Degree
Basic Management Experience - 2 years
Basic Functional Experience – 1 year work experience in food or culinary services including restaurants, fast food, vending, catering services, institutional services, mall food courts, etc.
