Sodexo, leader in quality of life services has an immediate opening for an Executive Chef at Broadlawns Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.  This unit is a  90 bed Hospital where the Chef will oversee daily operations of Cafe, Trayline & Jazzmans Coffee.  Broadlawns is committed to providing high-quality healthcare that is coordinated, compassionate and cost-effective.

The Broadlawns Medical Center campus includes an acute care hospital, emergency services, inpatient and outpatient services, lab and radiology services, mental health services, specialty clinics, dentistry, and a 24-hour crisis team.   We will provide food and nutrition services for patient dining, retail café operations and catering services as well as the clinical program.  


Ideal candidate will:

  • Multi-task, and be a creative person.
  • Have financial responsibility as well as supervising the staff.  
  • Have a high level of computer experience in food management programs, POS programs and working knowledge of Excel,Word and Outlook. 
  • Have great communication skills and the ability to train and mentor employees.


Reporting to the General Manager the Executive chef will be responsible for all aspects of the culinary program and have additional operational responsibilities as well.  Coupled with prior management level experience in a hospital environment, our ideal candidate will be a customer focused, innovative leader with exceptional culinary experience and a very creative mindset as well as demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong client relationships and meet financial objectives.

Position Summary

Provides culinary leadership within a medium sized unit including menu planning, program execution and staff management & training.  Works directly with internal and external clients managing the catering process from beginning through execution. 
Key Duties
- Implements & coordinates the culinary function. 
- Directs & trains cooks & utility workers.
- Ensures food preparation & production meets operational standards.
- Manages catering & retail areas.
- Customer & Client satisfaction.
- Financial management to include food cost & labor management.
-  Manages food & physical safety programs.


Qualifications & Requirements

Basic Education Requirement - Associate's Degree 
Basic Management Experience - 2 years
Basic Functional Experience - 2 years work experience in food or culinary services including restaurants, fast food, vending, catering services, institutional services, mall food courts, etc.
