The **Executive Director of Business Strategy and Operations** will be responsible for supporting the design of strategies to enable portfolio delivery and for providing senior-level operations support to the Head of Medicinal Sciences, an organization of 2,700+ colleagues.

The role will be responsible for establishing a framework and action plan for processes like strategic planning, portfolio resource planning, operational planning, capital and revenue budget financial management, business processes, statistics and analytics, collaboration and communications. They will be a key member of the MedSci leadership team driving crisp, objective decision-making, determining appropriate resource allocation, helping implement new strategies around acceleration and steering critical turning points towards transformation and innovation.

**Strategic Responsibilities:**

+ Responsible for developing the Strategy and Goals for Medicinal Sciences, ensuring a clear link to the WRD Strategy and alignment to WRD objectives.

+ Accountable for key strategic pieces of work for MedSci including the annual Operating Plan, Portfolio Prioritization, and other strategic efforts ongoing in Medicinal Sciences.

+ Responsible for identifying and driving strategic priorities and business improvement opportunities within MedSci including both one-time and continuous improvement initiatives and ensuring that discreet deliverables are well characterized with associated timing, resources, quality parameters, and interdependencies across lines.

+ Support key WRD and corporate strategic initiatives that involve important R&D aspects/considerations.

+ Manage project teams from the standpoint of logistics, communication, resource management and team effectiveness to ensure delivery of projects on time and on budget.

+ Measures output and efficiency of Medicinal Sciences against external benchmarks and recommend solutions to improve performance.

+ Partners with the leadership team to ensure timely achievement of key project milestones and objectives.

**Portfolio Reporting Responsibilities** :

+ Responsible for overseeing the Medicinal Sciences Portfolio reports and analysis of the portfolio, leading a team collaborating at the enterprise level with other project management and operations groups within Medicinal Sciences and the Research Units / Business Units to understand portfolio output, resource needs and time frames to accelerate development of drugs to market.

+ Designs cross-MedSci strategies that enable portfolio delivery and works with MSLT to implement.

+ Prepares a monthly portfolio report, including risks and challenges, as well as project resourcing for MedSci Leadership Team.

+ Provides strategic insights on the portfolio to the Medicinal Sciences Leadership Team to enable resource allocation and portfolio discussions.

+ Leads a team who can rapidly answer all portfolio and resourcing questions that emerge from leadership.

+ Partners with Medicinal Sciences Operations colleagues on annual Op Plan process to ensure robust portfolio assessments and forecasting, forecasting for resource needs as input to portfolio prioritization and monthly reporting, and providing strategic insight on trends and opportunities.

+ Designs and implements new ways to analyze productivity that are transparent to customers and clearly demonstrate the ROI for Medicinal Science functions.

+ Partners with the Director, Business Operations, to develop agendas for leadership team meetings that optimize and focus time on the highest priority areas and tracks actions and follow-through.

**Qualifications -**

**Work and Educational Experience**

+ 10-15 years' experience in the biopharma industry (including R&D experience), either at biopharma company and/or top-tier management consulting firm with pharma focus.

+ 3+ years' experience from top-tier management consulting firm or in-house strategy experience at biopharma company strongly preferred.

+ 3+ years of experience and demonstrated skills in developing, managing and delivering strategies and plans in a large, complex organization.

+ Advanced degree in drug discovery relevant topic - M.D., Pharm.D., or Ph.D. in life sciences a plus.

+ MBA or hands on demonstrated experience in a variety of key business models and frameworks a plus.

+ Experience in communicating and interacting with senior executive stakeholders.

+ Experience and familiarity with the Pfizer organization, particularly R&D/Business Units/Corporate Strategy.

+ Experience in portfolio reporting and analysis desired.

+ Training in leadership skills, supervisory skills and management skills.

+ Training or education in business administration would be an advantage (budgetary management and fiscal awareness).

+ Matrix management experience.

+ Strategic planning experience.

**Skill Set**

+ In-depth understanding of pharma R&D strategy, processes and operations, with proven track record of successful strategy development and implementation.

+ Strategic thinker; strong analytical and problem solving skills and business acumen.

+ Strong project management skills, the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously; the ability to respond to tight timelines as well as the capability to interact with all levels of the organization in a professional and discrete manner.

+ Possess high energy, sense of urgency, creativity, decisiveness, ability to work well under pressure.

+ Ability to navigate global organization and create alignment & network of colleagues across levels.

+ Ability to lead complex matrixed teams and experience in working with/presenting to senior executives

+ Ability to motivate others to maintain a high and consistent level of excellence in strategy development, project management and outcomes.
