Position Summary:

First Home Care has been providing quality care since 1991. We provide community-based services for children, adolescents and adults with a history of out-of-home behavioral health treatment. The First Home Care team has developed an integrated continuum of care which includes Therapeutic Foster Care, School-Based Programming, Alternative Day School, Mental Health and In Home Services and Outpatient Counseling. First Home Care has facilities located in Portsmouth, VA, Richmond, VA, Alexandria, VA, Painter, VA, Roanoke, VA, Washington, DC, Clinton, MD and Baltimore, MD.

First Home Care Corporation is comprised of First Home Care (FHC) and Oyster Point Academy. In addition FHC has a long-standing management agreement with Foundations for Home and Community-a Washington D.C. and Maryland based non-profit corporation.

First Home Care currently has an excellent career opportunity for an experienced Family Centered Specialist to work with our In Home program in the Richmond VA area.

The candidate selected will be responsible for the following:

  • Serve as a positive role model for children/adolescents and adults to observe and learn socially effective values, attitudes and behaviors.
  • Contribute to formulation and implementation of the treatment plans. 
  • Provides individualized services to include medication education, teaching daily living skills, and enhances social and interpersonal skills. 
  • Travels throughout the community to provide mental health services in the home and community and to act as a community liaison between the individuals we serve and the service providers in the community.
 
Requirements

The following are the job requirements for the Family Centered Specialist position:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Services field or Special Education. Master’s Degree preferred.  Human Services field includes Social Work, Psychology, Sociology and Counseling. 
  • Must meet the DBHDS's and DMAS's qualifications for a QMHP (A and C). 
  • One or more years experience proving direct clinical care to children/adolescents and adults with mental health illness. 
  •  Must possess knowledge of community resources and how to access such resources; principles of effective home, family and personal management; family dynamics; military structure and military lifestyle; crisis intervention/management. 
  •  Must have knowledge of parenting and child care skills training; home management; resources/network building and strong organizational and communication skills.
