Michael’s House Treatment Center is a refuge of healing and recovery nestled at the base of the San Jacinto Mountains in Palm Springs, California. FRN is currently seeking a Family Program Therapist, to be responsible for providing family programming to residents and their family members on a bi-weekly basis.  The ideal candidate will have the ability to inspire our clients’ confidence in both our staff and the FRN Model of Treatment. This position is located at Foundations Recovery Network’s facility, Michael’s House, in Palm Springs, California.


Job Requirements

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate family programming including staffing, workshops, which include weekend workshops
  • Ability to demonstrate family treatment plan for assigned clients.
  • Facilitate comprehensive evaluation and diagnostic summary for assigned clients.
  • Facilitate multi-disciplinary family treatment planning and updates for assigned clients (ensure inclusion of all treatment modalities / disciplines).
  • Family group therapy, education, and meetings, per program schedule.
  • Schedule series of lectures
  • Provide oversight of family program schedule and participants needs
  • Provide weekly updates with family members and referral sources.
  • Make appropriate referrals to continuing levels of care within our system as well as to other treatment centers,.
  • Identify, evaluate, and clinically manage crisis situations to reduce the potential for harm and to provide support and assistance in problem resolution
  • Utilize motivational interviewing to encourage client participation in all program activities.
  • Monitor safety and security of all residential clients and facilities throughout the weekend.
  • Provide written and verbal reports to multi-disciplinary team
  • Meets quality expectations of accuracy, completeness, and is responsive to feedback.
  • Meets timeliness for completion of work and demonstrates self-paced performance and adjusts priorities as needed.
  • Facilitate ancillary services / community referrals for assigned clients (including coordination of transportation with Client Care Managers).
  • Participate in in-service training, individual / group supervision meeting and counseling staff interface meetings.
  • Ensure clients’ records for are comprehensive, complete, and neat, and meet licensing standards.
  • Maintain clients’ records in our database system (TIER)

  • Participate in alumni and referral source events pertinent to the facility.
  • Represents Michael’s House in a manner which conveys a professional, courteous, and caring attitude.
  • Knowledgeable of Client Rights and treats all clients with dignity and respect.
  • Utilizes an open, non-judgmental, non-discriminatory, professional and therapeutic approach to treatment with all clients.
  • Maintains a neat, professional appearance consistent with the dress code.
  • Serves as a role model for other staff through maintaining a professional approach and providing a positive work environment and team spirit.
  • Maintain professionalism in interaction with staff and clients at all times.
  • Exercise sound clinical judgment and seek supervision when necessary.
  • Complete other duties as designated by supervisor, managers and administrators.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Clinical understanding of the principles of co-occurring integrated treatment
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Understanding of diverse cultures and gender specific issues and ability to incorporate needs of gender and culturally diverse groups into practice setting.
  • Good organizational skills; ability to prioritize workload and work independently.
  • Must comply with drug-free workplace guidelines
  • First Aid Certification (or willingness to accept training prior to start date)
  • CPR certification (or willingness to accept training prior to start date)
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule


Education / Experience:

  • Minimum of a master’s degree, doctoral level preferred (MFCC, MSW, MA, PhD, PsyD, MS) from an accredited or state approved graduate school.
  • Professional license required.
  • Minimum of three to five years direct service experience in an inpatient or outpatient addiction and mental health treatment setting.


Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • Sits, stands, bends, lifts and moves intermittently during work hours.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull and/or move up to 20 pounds.
  • Position requires a great deal of work on the computer requiring manual dexterity and visual acuity.
  • A current, valid driver’s license is required for frequent business travel between locations.
  • Minimal overnight travel required.
  • Due to the 24/7 operational demands, must typically be available after normal working hours and on holidays to manage emergencies that may arise.
