POSITION PURPOSE:  To verify all insurance benefits and advise guarantor of any expected expense in order to maximize cash collections and minimize bad debt expense, while maintaining the integrity of patient accounting and maintaining good customer relations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  •  Visiting all self-pay patients that are in-house

  • Assist guarantors with payment arrangements and charity applications when appropriate

  • Obtain all necessary forms and documents of all insurance cards

  • Answers telephone calls and responds to all inquiries (verbal and written) from all stakeholders

  • Displays Positive Service Recovery Skills

  • Calling and collecting on self-pay past due balances

  • Other duties as assigned

 

Job Requirements

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:  Able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing with all stakeholders. Basic proficiency in MS Office and other PC applications as required. Able to perform basic math calculations, and be able to reconcile balances.

EDUCATION:  High school graduate or GED.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:  None.

EXPERIENCE:  One year experience in hospital business office setting with direct experience in insurance verification, billing, collections and third party reimbursement.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

*              Requires prolonged sitting and repetitive use of hands for typing, writing, and using a calculator.

*              Constant use of telephone and computer (approximately 5-8 hours daily).

*              Hearing and vision sufficient to perform essential functions.

*              Ability to work under stress on a daily basis.

*              Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, and grasping.

*              Emotional stability necessary to perform essential functions.

*              Ability to maintain confidentiality.

*              Ability to speak clearly and write.
