The Retirement Finance department, located in Newark New Jersey, Hartford Connecticut and Scranton Pennsylvania, is responsible for accounting controls, financial reporting, planning and analysis as well as financial system and product development support for the Retirement business. Our Retirement Controllers unit, located in Hartford, Connecticut, which is responsible for accounting, financial reporting and controls of the Retirement business, has a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a finance professional, with opportunity for future advancement.

The Financial Reporting Specialist within the Controllers unit will partner across corporate groups, operational teams and business partners to implement and monitor controls over transaction processing, compile financial information and perform analysis and financial reporting.

 
This position will support the collection and analysis of financial information used in the presentation of internal and external financial reporting. Specific responsibilities of this position may include the following:
 
  • Monitoring and addressing key financial reporting controls around GAAP and Statutory reporting
  • Coordinating quarterly balance sheet sign-off and quality reviews supporting the business unit financials
  • Analyzing account balance variances from expectations and prior periods and drilling down to identify primary drivers
  • Preparing, analyzing and reporting various metrics and financial reports for the Retirement business
  • Compiling financial information and collaborating with the Reporting team to finalize earnings presentations provided to the Business Unit Controller and corporate partners including Investor Relations
  • Identifying and correcting process errors through collaboration with business partners and recommending and implementing control modifications
  • Maintaining and updating the SOX and MAR internal control structure
  • Supporting new initiatives, continuous improvement and ad-hoc projects

  • Degree in Accounting/Finance preferred
  • 4 years of related experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of SOX and internal controls
  • Able to acquire deep knowledge of data and system flows, and drive efficient and effective changes for better controls and reporting
  • Solid organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in MS Excel (e.g., pivot tables) and creativity using technology
  • Strong analytical & organizational skills with close attention to detail
  • Self-motivated and proactive with ability to work independently
  • Strong interpersonal, partnering and communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, challenging environment and work overtime during peak periods
  • Familiarity with the Oracle ledger and reporting tools (SQB, Essbase) a plus
