Description:

Corporate & Other Finance (“C&O”) reports directly to the Controller of the Company and provides strategic decision support to the CFO, Controller and Treasurer by performing the accounting close for the C&O Segment and preparing financial analysis, plans and forecasts that incorporate a variety of activities, including the debt financing of the Company, investment of Corporate assets, Corporate hedging programs, pension, compensation and employee benefit plans, divested businesses including Long Term Care, Broker Dealer reporting, and other initiatives across the Corporate Centers.

 

The Broker Dealer (BD) Financial reporting team, a group within Corporate & Other Finance, is seeking a high caliber professional to fill an Accounting Specialist position.  The BD Accounting Specialist is responsible for performing monthly and quarterly accounting close activities and preparing the monthly, quarterly and annual legal entity financial statements (both GAAP and regulatory) for three broker dealers (“BDs”), including Prudential Investment Management Services (“PIMS”), Pruco Securities (“PRUCO”), and Prudential Annuities Distributors (“PAD”).  The BDs, which are registered with the SEC and members of Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), are the distributors of various registered securities products, including Prudential’s proprietary mutual funds and certain variable life and annuity products.

 

This Accounting Specialist position is an excellent opportunity to learn and gain experience working with the company’s distribution of various individual Variable Life and Variable Annuity Insurance products/activities and Retirement services products/activities.

 

This position is responsible for the following:

  • General accounting, internal control and financial reporting responsibilities including preparation and review of balance sheets, income statements, journal entries and related supporting schedules.  The position requires extensive partnering with, and support for, internal and external key business partners to ensure proper reporting of financial data.
  • Assisting management with the preparation and assembly of regulatory and GAAP financial statements and supporting financial analyses for Prudential’s BDs.
  • Gather and review financial support including account analyses, trade blotters, registered representative counts, and trade statistics, business metrics, and data mining.
  • Interface with internal and external auditors in the conduct of their periodic examinations of the BDs.
  • Preparation of weekly SEC Rule 15c3-3 (customer protection) computation for the PIMS BD.
  • Some supervision of day to day work of junior level employees.
  • Ad hoc reporting and additional projects as required.

Job Requirements: 

  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 3-5 years experience in accounting/financial reporting  (Broker Dealer reporting experience may be a plus)

 

Other qualifications include:

  • Excellent organizational skills and independence to meet established deadlines with great attention to details and accuracy.
  • Self-motivated and proactive individual who can work overtime during peak monthly and annual business cycles.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite, Oracle GL, Outlook and various Internet based applications.
  • General understanding of financial markets, insurance and investment products
  • Strong accounting, research and analytical skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.  Must be able to communicate with all levels of management.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and priorities simultaneously
  • Adaptable to change and transition
  • Ability to drive process improvement and offer constructive suggestions and/or solutions
