Job Description
  • Demonstrates knowledge in preparing food and meals for patients, cafeteria, and special function events.
  • Consistently prepares and serves food in a timely, organized, and attractive manner.
  • Follows menu selections and accurately places food and beverage items on patient meal trays.
  • Maintains adherence to standardized recipes and ensures appropriate quantities are prepared according to production tallies.
  • Consistently sets up the cold production area(s) by obtaining food and beverage items, necessary equipment and service wares beforehand.
  • Identifies opportunities and makes suggestions to improve production and preparation efficiency.
  • Properly store food and beverage items at appropriate temperatures, maintaining temperature logs, implementing and documenting a plan to correct any temperatures that are out of range and notifying department leadership of actions taken.
  • Completes daily cleaning assignments, logs completion and submits worksheet by the end of scheduled shift.
  • Serves on assembly line for patient meals, following patient meal ticket specifications, honoring patient preferences if within dietary restrictions under the supervision of the diet tech, lead diet tech or clinical dietitian.
  • Identifies and monitors the need to rotate food and beverage items on a “first-in first-out” basis.
  • Effectively follows production tallies and adheres to correct serving portions.
  • Demonstrates the ability to properly use cooking and production equipment and utensils, including proper cleaning and sanitizing after each use.
  • Demonstrates high quality, aesthetically pleasing, and taste appealing meals.
  • Consistently maintains a clean and sanitized work area, wiping off tables, removing soiled trays and trash from the cafeteria dining room as needed.
  • Identifies and effectively communicates to department leadership times when assistance is needed in the cafeteria due to high volume customer traffic minimizing customer waiting time to ensure a satisfactory meal experience.
  • Participates in monthly in-services and department meetings with at least an eighty percent attendance rate annually.
  • Demonstrates the ability to perform simple math problems in accordance with daily assigned job tasks.
Job Requirements

Minimum Education

  • High school or equivalent

Required Licensure / Certifications

  • Maintains certification in Food Service Sanitation by the Department of Health and/or ServSafe certification.

Minimal Essential Experience

  • Previous kitchen experience in an acute care facility preferred, or one year experience in a food related field.

Work Environment

  • Works in a clean, well-lighted, well-ventilated work environment.
  • Subject to irregular hours.
