Sodexo's universities segment has an opportunity for a true culinarian to be our new General Manager 3 for our long tenured relationship at University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) located in Crookston, MN


Where is Crookston, MN? It is part of the "Grand Forks, ND–MN Metropolitan Statistical Area" or "Greater Grand Forks".  Crookston's beautiful surroundings provides opportunities for hunting, fishing, cross-country skiing, and other fun outdoor activities.


Food operations on this mid-size campus include resident dining, retail dining and catering.  Responsibilities will include oversight of front of the house operations regarding marketing and customer service. As well as the food production, purchasing and receiving food and supplies.  The ability to effectively manage multiple priorities, knowledge of sustainability initiatives and agricultural ingenuities are preferred.  Food costing, catering experience, excellent client relations and team building skills are a must! Along with the skill set to effectively implement all budget controls at the unit level will be a plus.


Reporting to the District Manager, the ideal GM candidate will have:


  • Prior campus/university food service management experience;
  • Proven experience in back of the house operations and/or Chef experience (preferred, not mandatory);
  • Demonstrated experience with innovative menu planning and superior organizational skills are preferred;
  • A demonstrated ability to lead a team in the day to day food operations to ensure quality production and exceptional delivery of service;
  • Excellent leadership skills and the ability to interact with customers, clients and all levels of management;
  • Ability to successfully implement Sodexo programs, policies, and procedures while managing a diverse team of union employees;
  • Strong financial acumen to ensure cost effective operations to include labor management, food costs, and inventory control, operating a P&L account;
  • Experience in training and developing staff and coordinating customer service programs.

Position Summary

Directs all contract management service operations at a single account/unit. Plans and supervises special functions. Maintains cash control and payroll records. Hires and trains unit personnel. Maintains customer satisfaction and good public relations. Manages through managers and is accountable for the contract. Senior-most person assigned to a one client account
Provides local leadership and strategic direction while developing team for new and emerging business solutions that sustain growth in the day to day operations.
