Unit Description

Sodexo Leisure is seeking a General Manager 5 to lead our operations at the Smithsonian National Zoo in Washington, DC.  The position will be responsible for all on-site food operations including unique dining, concessions, catering and events. 


The ideal candidate will have experience with the following:

  • Proven ability to manage multi-outlets in a seasonal venue such as a Zoo, Amusement Park or other indoor/outdoor public venue
  • Managing the culinary operations of full service cafes, high volume concessions and high volume catering in a venue of at least $8M annual F&B revenues
  • Ability to demonstrate excellence in client and customer relations, team motivation
  • Knowledge of food trends and a passion for delivering outstanding quality in food and service.
  • Strong leadership skills with demonstrated ability to motivate employees to bring their best everyday

Position Summary

Directs all contract management service operations at a single account/unit. Plans and supervises special functions. Maintains cash control and payroll records. Hires and trains unit personnel. Maintains customer satisfaction and good public relations. Manages through managers and is accountable for the contract. Senior-most person assigned to a one client account.
Provides local leadership and strategic direction while developing team for new and emerging business solutions that sustain growth in the day to day operations.

Qualifications & Requirements

Basic Education Requirement - Bachelor’s Degree           

Basic Management Experience - 5 years              

Basic Functional Experience - 5 years
