Job Details

The Global Medical Communications Director will support Pfizer Oncology in leading and developing a medical communication strategy, including publications and congress planning, and will work closely with the Medical Strategy Head, Asset Team Leaders, and Publications Management Specialists to plan and execute publication activity.

**Primary Duties:**

+ Lead Publication Steering Committees (PSC) for assigned compound(s) to develop global publication plans including abstract submissions, congress presentations and manuscripts

+ Collaborate with Medical Strategy Head (MSH) to develop asset-level communication strategies and ensure alignment of regional and global-level medical strategies.

+ Develop and maintain relationships with external authors through engagement with ongoing publication activities, including congress presentation slide reviews and external publication steering committee meetings (as appropriate)

+ Develop key internal and external communications, including digital initiatives that present and share key scientific data

+ Lead internal communications around new scientific and clinical data to Global Medical Affairs (GMA) organization on asset and disease areas of interest

+ Facilitate the development of congress presentations with external authors prior to and onsite congresses (eg, slide reviews)

+ Collaborate with Publications Management Team (PMT) specialists to manage publication operations activities with the medical writing agency

+ Support asset teams, regional and global medical affairs and other Pfizer Oncology stakeholders in engaging with the external medical community

+ Provide internal and external Medical Communication support including medical-to-medical slide sets, Q&A documents, scientific platforms, and global newsletters

+ Partner with PR, Media and World Wide Commercial Development around asset scientific communications

+ Collaborate with other Medical Communication Directors to plan and develop content for internal SharePoint site

+ Contribute to strategic planning for key conventions to gain alignment on the Congress Plans from the cross functional/regional working teams.

+ Lead and contribute to internal communications regarding pre- and post-congress coverage reporting.


+ Minimum 5-7 years pharmaceutical industry with 2+ years experience in Medical Affairs/Medical Communications/Medical Communications Agency

+ Represent a function within a matrix organization through a strong track record of excellent presentation, customer facing, and interpersonal skills

+ Direct external vendors and manage budgets, timelines, and quality of deliverables

+ Grasp scientific context and assimilate perspectives from stakeholders

+ Strong track record of written and oral communication skills to develop and present scientific information to varied audiences and articulate messages succinctly

+ Understand detailed technical information and convey complex ideas to a variety of audience types and cultures

+ Quickly build rapport and credibility with key internal and key external stakeholders through strong interpersonal skills

+ Strong organizational skills to track numerous tasks for multiple simultaneous projects in a deadline-oriented environment

+ Effectively operate in a complex internal matrix and external partner relationship(s)

+ Travel requirement is 15%-20%


+ Experience in oncology

+ Experience in global medical communications and understanding of applicable regional legal and regulatory hurdles

+ Experience with scientific peer-reviewed publications

+ Familiarity with ICMJE Authorship Guidelines and Good Publication Practice Guidelines


+ Bachelors degree in a biological science, healthcare, or communications

+ Advanced scientific/healthcare degree strongly preferred (PharmD, PhD, MS, etc.)
