Prudential Group Insurance underwriting division is looking for an experienced Group Disability Underwriter in our National Account market segment supporting employer groups of 5,000 employees. The person in this position functions as an independent and experienced underwriter and has a sound foundation in underwriting principles.  Primarily accountable for underwriting Group Disability proposals, renewals and on-going case activity in accordance with statutory regulations and existing underwriting policies and practices, analyzing cases and making and communicating decisions in a manner which contributes to the profitability of the product and reputation of the company.  The person in this role is expected to solve a range of increasingly complex problems and possess more advanced problem solving skills to address risk and service related issues.     



You will be accountable for: 

  •  Assessing, calculating and specifying conditions under which Prudential is willing to accept risk on group disability business for prospective and inforce customers.  This includes, but is not limited to, the review and analysis of risk criteria, demographic data, financial data, rating formulas, case specific experience, product filings and statutory requirements for increasingly complex cases.   
  • Communicating and partnering with life underwriters, sales representatives, account managers, brokers, customers and prospective customers regarding case issues, underwriting assessments, pricing and rating with a customer focus. 
  • Actively engaging in supporting the positive consultative outcomes crucial to our long term success by enhanced application of growing underwriting and business expertise.
  • Demonstrating proficiency in developing client reporting and providing insights into trends and drivers of results, and having the ability to make recommendations for desired outcomes. 
  • Researching and providing input, or analysis on matters of policy and process.
  • Participating in special projects and may provide one-on-one training for less experienced underwriters.
  • Making sound decisions to drive results
  • Demonstrating an excellent work ethic and proactive development of skills and knowledge. 
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships
  • Possessing strong business acumen and analytical skills.  Demonstrating an in-depth understanding of insurance, underwriting policy and the financial services industry



  • Strong understanding and application of Group Disability product principles and features
  • Group Disability Underwriting experience, preferably 5 years, or equivalent through related work experience.
  • Group Life Underwriting experience (a plus)
  • Proven ability to work independently
  • Strong Analytical and mathematical skills.
