Role & Responsibilities

The main responsibilities of any Head of PMO of course apply to this Cisco role:

  • Responsible for understanding the demand and ensure the supply of Project Management staff for the deliveries in line with business plans and priorities.
  • Continue to develop the team’s Project and Program Management skills on an individual and group basis through training, certifications and coaching activities.
  • Ensure that all ongoing projects are delivered by the team, provide governance to ensure that stakeholders are informed of progress and actions are managed to resolve roadblocks and issues.
  • Create a continuous improvement and learning culture within the team with knowledge sharing, lessons learned and technical updates.
  • Ensure that the Project Management framework is understood and followed by all, as well as developing any Japan specific process steps and collateral. Support innovative thinking to further develop the global processes based on new experiences from the team.

The Head of PMO is required to lead by example and incorporate the Cisco culture and values into their and the team’s behavior, creating a high performing and inclusive team.

Management of recruitment, interviews, onboarding and induction in line with Cisco policy and guidelines for newly recruited team members to ensure that they are set up for success.

In order to support the regional and global PMO teams continuous improvement, put forward and / or champion suggestions for improvement or participate in initiatives put forward by other teams. Ensure that any change management, process improvements or new tool introduction is managed effectively by the team.

The Cisco Advanced Services (AS) organization helps customers optimize their IT and network investment and drives the adoption of technologies and business solutions. As an essential component, Project & Program Management is at the heart of the delivery of the Cisco Services portfolio to our customers. The Head of PMO is responsible for the leadership and development of a best-in-industry team of Project & Program Managers, consistently delivering impeccable quality in alignment with Cisco and Customer business goals, objectives and priorities.

The Team

A key element of the role is to attract and retain talented and highly skilled Project Managers and manage their career development to meet the needs of Cisco and our customers. The team will be responsible for the successful management of a large portfolio of complex and challenging projects, working across all customer segments (Service Providers, Enterprise and Public Sector) and involving the full Cisco solution and product catalogue. Team members will also be responsible for working as part of Program teams managing complex customer delivery engagements.

The Head of PMO is responsible for the successful delivery of customer projects, ensuring customer acceptance criteria are achieved and will strive to exceed the expected Cisco business results. The PMO team is also required to provide subject matter expertise support for pre-sales opportunities including scoping, sizing, costing and defining delivery models.

Who You Are:

Minimum Qualifications

  • 10+ years’ experience in either the service delivery or technical Project Management area
  • Educated to degree level (Business or technical degrees preferred)
  • Knowledge of PMI Project Methodology - PMP Certification (or equivalent, such as PRINCE) preferred
  • Experience of building and leading high performing teams
  • Track record of successful Customer Program and/or Project delivery
  • Understanding of typical IT companies and Vendor organization structures, operating models and culture
  • Understanding of typical IT companies and Vendor delivery processes and tools
  • Business level fluency in English and Japanese required due to the nature of engagements.

  • Exemplary written and verbal communication skills, presentation and negotiation skills
  • Ability to lead and inspire team members to ensure the successful completion of customer projects and to consistently achieve or out-perform on team key performance metrics
  • Knowledge of relevant external processes and certifications and their impacts on an organization. Examples of such are quality, information security, environmental, and health and safety.
