Job Details

The colleague in this role leads a group of chemists performing design and synthesis in support of Oncology Research, in collaboration with project colleagues based in Pearl River and La Jolla. Accountable for executing the medicinal chemistry on a portion of the small molecule pre-CS portfolio, serving as the East Coast Chemistry Lead on the Oncology Med Chem (OMC) LT and providing strategic drug discovery and medicinal chemistry input to Oncology Targeted Therapeutics Discovery (TTD) leadership based in Pearl River.


+ Lead a team of (15-20) design and synthesis chemists working on Oncology projects, ensuring efficient delivery of required project drug candidates, project phase transitions or timely no go decisions. May take on Chemistry coRPL responsibilities.

+ As the East Coast single POA, work with the OMC LT to ensure the East Coast team are working on high value projects and that their efforts are maximally leveraged in advancing the portfolio in collaboration with others in the Oncology Research Enterprise.

+ As the primary OMC POA for the TTD group, based in Pearl River, provide strategic input and advice regarding current and future strategy and projects with a view to supporting innovation and productivity from TTD (current focus is nucleic acid sensing pathways and nanoparticles).

+ Drive for excellence in medicinal chemistry and a culture that drives continuous learning and high colleague engagement and development.

+ As a member of the OMC LT, contribute to ensuring the project, portfolio and people agenda is delivered and that the organization is seen as partners of choice by all that they interact and partner with.

+ Doctoral level degree in chemistry, or equivalent experience.

+ Minimum of 15 years of relevant industry experience

+ Strong working knowledge and track record of delivery in medicinal chemistry and drug discovery including delivery of candidates.

+ Experience with leadership of a medicinal chemistry group.

+ Successful application of novel technologies to improve productivity in medicinal chemistry.

+ Effective execution of performance management practices.

+ Strong working knowledge of other Research and Development Lines.

+ Extensive experience in leading change and dealing with uncertainty.
