Streamwood Behavioral Healthcare System (SBHS) is a 178-bed acute care facility located in Streamwood,IL and has been providing mental health treatment to the Chicagoland community and the state of Illinois since 1991. We are dedicated to offering services to meet the ever-changing emotional and behavioral healthcare needs of children, adolescents,adults and their families.

SBHS has a full-time Health Information Services Technician position available. Position will work Monday - Friday or Tuesday - Saturday.

The Health Information Services Technician assists in all areas of the Health Information Management (HIM) department.  Predominantly assembling/analyzing discharged medical records, filing loose reports and medical record re-analysis. Other duties would include processing internal and external requests for the release of consumer information and printing transcribed reports, providing reports to providers of care, retrieving and filing of records, maintaining organization of filing areas and department, and auditing medical records for compliance as per laws, rules and regulations of federal and state licensing agencies, and the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) standards for quality of consumer care. 


Experience:  A minimum of one (1) year of experience in health information management department is preferred , and a thorough knowledge of medical terminology 

Skills:  Knowledge of Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities Confidentiality Act, State and Federal regulations Release of Information procedures, medical terminology and medical records functions, and computers. 

Education:  Graduation from a Health Information Technician (RHIT) program is required.  New HIT graduates are acceptable.

License and Registration Requirements: RHIT or RHIT pending.
