The Healthcare Economics Consultant will be part of a team that advises business groups within UnitedHealthcare Medicare & Retirement on a wide range of items including but not limited to the following: analytics / impact modeling supporting various business initiatives, recommendations on health care cost savings opportunities, and trend build - up and management related to the yearly CMS bid filing. This position is critical in order to maintain the current level of support related to these activities for internal business customers. This function researches and investigates key business problems through quantitative analyses of utilization and healthcare costs data. Provides management with statistical findings and conclusions. Provides data in support of actuarial, financial and utilization analyses.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Supports Medicare Advantage bid filing process
  • Maintains comprehensive summary of medical capitation contracts with healthcare providers
  • Serves as subject matter expert on capitation contract information available for various claims platforms (primarily NICE platform, as well as NDB / COSMOS Capitation)
  • Manage data requests, such as spend by provider, by market, by region, by specialty
  • Trend analysis, such as impact of moving schedules, changing terms, etc.
  • System audits and research
  • Updating databases used by downstream customers


Required Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of work experience in a corporate setting
  • 3+ years working in a team environment
  • 3+ years of experience performing significant data analysis and report development
  • Proficiency in Excel and MS Access

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with capitation, fee schedules, unit cost
  • Experience interfacing with NICE and COSMOS systems
