Job Description

Job Duties

  • Assures all oxygen tanks are full and available on each gurney
  • Appropriately undress patient and attach monitor
    • Vital signs
    • Bedside care
    • Observation
  • Able to assist the Medical Staff with all duties as needed
  • Reports and documents in the emergency department information system patient care performed:
  • Demonstrates competency in the transporting of patients
  • Ensures the medical record is neat and organized and all forms have accurate patient identification noted on every page of the medical record as directed by Clinical Supervisor
  • Accurately and timely documentation of patient data. i.e. vital signs, applications of splints
  • Assists clerk with copying of transfer charts.
  • Stocks all rooms with appropriate bedside supplies and linens
  • Stocks all IV carts and Pyxis supplies
  • Identifies malfunctioning equipment in work area/nursing station and sends for repair in a timely manner
  • Assists Department Management with assuring that all supplies are ordered in a timely manner
  • Receives and places items in the proper storage areas
  • Ensures dirty instruments are handled according to infection control policies and procedures
Job Requirements

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills in the English language
  • Telephone skills
  • Basic computer systems
  • Typing and filing skills
  • Basic knowledge of nursing care terminology and functions

MINIMUM ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE

  • Preferred Six (6) months experience working as an EMT/CNA/MA

MINIMUM ESSENTIAL EDUCATION

  • NCI or CPI certified within 120 days of hire.

REQUIRED LICENSURE / CERTIFICATIONS

  • EMT, CNA, or Medical Assistant
  • BLS (current AHA)
  • Basic dysrhythmia certification required within 90 days of hire
  • Current Phlebotomy certification from the State of California  preferred

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Ability to work in high volume fluctuating census environment
  • Subject to many interruptions
  • Subject to irregular hours
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environment with fluctuating noise levels
  • Exposure to combative patients
