SWHS consists of two acute-care hospitals:  Inland Valley Medical Center and Rancho Springs Medical Center. 

Inland Valley Medical Center

A 122 bed acute care hospital which features the regions only Level II Trauma Unit and is the county-designated Paramedical Base station and Southwest Riverside County’s only Center of Excellence in Weight Loss Surgery.

Job Requirements

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS

 

  • Must possess knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English to be able to communicate at all levels.
  • Must have typing skills, phone skills, fax, copying, and strong computer knowledge.
  • Must have proficient skills in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Performs corrections within the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system or notify appropriate staff member for correction when discovered at a 95% accuracy rate or greater.
  • Demonstrates the ability to compile accurate statistical data on chart audits concurrently and/or after discharge for reporting purposes using the latest performance improvement tools/methods.
  • Demonstrates the ability to search out and verify previous medical record number, issue new numbers when applicable and notify the appropriate HIM staff member for correction completion.
  • Consistently demonstrates the ability to conduct quality analysis on inpatient, observations, ASC, Emergency Room and Outpatient within 48-hours of discharge/visit according to the current medical staff bylaws, rules and regulations, and State and Federal statutes and The Joint Commission Standards.
  • Accurately applies appropriate deficiency within the electronic record system with 95% accuracy.
  • Demonstrates the ability to assist physicians in completion of their records and to answer questions regarding completion requirements.
  • Able to perform in a fast paced, high performing environment with heavy-duty demands
  • Maintains Fax Stations and distribution lists for accurate automated faxing within the current EHR system for all sites.
  • Investigates possible HIPAA breaches, makes corrections, tracks findings and communicates outcomes to HIM management and applicable hospital staff

 

MINIMUM ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE

 

  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in the Medical Records Department in an acute hospital setting with prior knowledge of State and Federal release of information laws preferred.

 

MINIMUM ESSENTIAL EDUCATION

 

  • Completion of an introductory course in Medical Terminology. Completion of a two-year medical records science program preferred.
