Due to our expansion and growing demand for our services, we currently have an immediate need for a Full Time Medical Coder.
Reporting to the Health Information Management Director, this position is responsible for the following:
• timely coding and abstracting of medical records in accordance with the current principles of ICD-9-CM/ ICD-10-CM coding guidelines using Quadramed/Quantim encoding system.
• resolving technical coding and sequencing problems.
• accurate abstracting of patient data into the Quantim /MS4 computerized data base system in accordance with the department policies and guidelines. .
• monitoring the unbilled report (AR-Report) and maintaining compliance within the established turn-around time and performing clerical and/or technical medical record duties.
• Assembling medical records, analyzing discharged records, assisting physicians with chart completion, files records, and, answering telephones, processing release of information requests, as well as other daily duties within the Medical Records department as assigned.


Job Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent; Associate’s Degree preferred.

RHIT, CCA, CCS Certification from AHIMA is required 

One (1) year experience in inpatient coding experience. Psychiatric coding experience preferred. Computer experience that includes but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite, and Quadramed /Quantim encoder preferred. Prefer 1 year experience in HIM department.

• Must have knowledge of medical terminology, and be skilled in the use of DSM-V and ICD-9-CM/ ICD-10-CM medical terminology.
• Knowledge of physician query process.
• Must be able to type accurately and have basic clerical training, which includes computer skills, basic filing skills and fundamental knowledge of office procedures.
• Ability to pay attention to details, develop and maintain effective efficient systems.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills, both oral and written.
