Job Description

Reporting to the Administrative Director of Nursing the House Supervisor position supervises and directs patient care and related activities of the hospital according to policy, procedure and the mission statement, vision, and values of Corona Regional Medical Center. Provides clinical support to hospital staff. Coordinates staffing of the nursing units. Coordinates patient bed placement/patient flow. Acts as liaison between patient units and other departments. Works collaboratively with department directors. Serves as administration representative.

 Essential Job Duties:

Completes assessment of hospital staffing needs of each nursing unit utilizing the appropriate acuity measurement and staffs with only minimal variance. Assumes responsibility to assign staff according to competency levels based on patient care needs.

Builds a team of skilled nurses for optimal patient care based on age and condition of the patient. Assures qualifications of staff are sufficient to maintain a therapeutic environment. Verifies and photocopies current credentialing of registry staff.

Controls staffing by acuity to within 1-2% of overall nursing budget and justifies staffing which goes over allowable 2% of budget.

Monitors compliance to legal aspects of nursing, JCAHO and Title 22 regulations, and Corona Regional Medical Center policies and procedures. Including COBRA/EMTALA requirements.

Knowledgeable of all laws, standards and regulations applicable to nursing.

Supports patient right in decision making and performance of duties. Promotes an environment in which the values, customs and spiritual beliefs of the individual patient are respected.

Ability to interact with patients and families of various age groups from newborn to geriatric.

Participates and assists with staff education, orientation, supervision, retention, and performance improvement.

Responds promptly to patient, family member, or physician concerns and complaints. Follows up verbally and/or in writing with appropriate individuals. Intervenes as necessary to ensure patient safety.

Knowledgeable of general nursing theory, practice, standards of care and standards of practice, including current trends and issues.

Ability to follow procedures on how to handle a major media event should the marketing department or administration be unavailable.

Takes initiative in solving problems involving scheduling, equipment, environment, support services or personnel.

Facilitates information flow regarding changes in hospital/departmental policies, procedures, and direction.

Participates in appropriate committees and meetings, nursing and administration, as requested.

Clear concise and courteous communication, excellent telephone etiquette, and positive interpersonal/interdepartmental relationships.

In the absence of directors and administration; plans, controls, directs, supervises and coordinates all administrative duties/activities, to ensure proper functioning of the hospital. Utilizes all available resources to maintain service excellence.

Coordinates patient flow/bed placement.

Accurately completes daily staffing sheets, 24 hour report.

Maintains a positive, attentive, low key manner and is highly visible. Follows appropriate chain of command. Completes rounds every two hours.

Demonstrates effective leadership skills during periods of high stress or emergency situations.

Follows hospital policies regarding patient privacy, confidentiality and resolution of conflict.

MINIMUM ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of two years recent clinical nursing experience in acute setting required.

  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.

    REQUIRED LICENSURE / CERTIFICATIONS

  • Current California Registered Nurse license required.

  • Current B.L.S. (CPR) required.

  • ACLS required within 90 days of start date.
