Garland Behavioral Hospital (GBH) is a 72 bed facility located inside Baylor Scott & White Medical Center- Garland. We provide a broad range of services for Adult Psychiatric conditions. Due to the expansion of the NEW Geriatrics and Adult Unit.

Garland Behavioral Hospital is seeking a Fulltime House Supervisor RN Days with a strong area of expertise in Nurse Leadership. Under the guidance of the Chief Nursing Officer, the House Supervisor is responsible for direction of patient care in the behavioral health care setting while achieving cooperation, teamwork and high morale between departments and staff. He/she consults with staff, physicians, administration and Nurse Executive on nursing problems and interpretation of facility policies to ensure patient needs are met. He/she intervenes in conflict situations/ crisis intervention and provides nursing leadership and care through physical and mental assessments, treatment plans and therapeutic treatments. They have a knowledge of wide range of disorders; cognitive, emotional, developmental, social and behavioral.  

This is a fulltime days position (12 hour shifts 3-4 days weekly with rotating weekends)  with opportunity for $5,000 sign on bonus with commitment

Key Responsibilities to include:

  • Supervises /completes nursing assessment within twenty-four (24) hours of admission
  • Supervises and educates nurses when applicable and related to identification of patient’s needs, problems, capabilities and limitations; supported by the recorded assessment data and reflect knowledge of the biophysical and psychosocial sciences and age-specific needs
  • Conducts audits of patients’ medical record as needed and assigned
  • Attends all codes providing leadership, support and on the spot education as indicated
  • Supervises individualized goal-directed nursing care to patients through the use of the nursing process and assures that Plan of Care is initiated
  • Plans continuity of patient care with other members of the health care team ; maintains and promotes communication with other departments to meet daily patient care needs
  • Assures Nursing/Mental Health Tech groups are conducted and documented as assigned and indicated on Unit Schedule
  • Conducts safety rounds on units in collaboration with other health care providers
  • Manages the patients admissions and discharges process
  • Manages STAT orders immediately by securing medication on a timely basis from the Pharmacy
  • Manages the process related to nursing staff responsibility for proper and safekeeping of all controlled medications, administration and documentation
  • Completes Patient Advocate functions in the absence of Patient Advocate
  • Participates in orientating new employees



Job Requirements

Education: Graduate from an accredited program of professional nursing required; Bachelor's preferred.

Experience:  A minimum of three (3) years experience in a psychiatric health-care facility preferred.

Licensure:  Currently licensed to practice by the Texas State Board of Nursing.

Additional Requirements:  BLS upon hire/ Handle with Care/ Verbal De-escalation/Seclusion and Restraint within 30 days of employment.
