Job Description

Austin Lakes Hospital located in beautiful and vibrant Austin, TX has PRN HOUSE SUPERVISOR - RN opportunities. Austin Lakes Hospital offers a continuum of psychiatric services for adults 18 and up with acute mental health needs in a confidential, caring environment that promotes crisis resolution, positive self awareness, personal growth and problem solving skills. The cornerstone of our treatment rests on exceptional mental health services and clinical excellence. Our continuum of care includes inpatient and outpatient psychiatric services to stabilize symptoms of depression, anxiety and other behavioral health disorders. Key responsibilities include:

• Assume responsibility for facility operations during the assigned shift.

• Assists in evaluation of the staffs’ performance.

• Evaluate patients/milieu acuity each shift, report status to CNO.

• Assign staff according to acuity and staffing guidelines.

• Assume overall responsibility for the provision of patient care services.

• Assist the CNO in the hiring of new staff.

• Comply with all Administrative, Clinical, and Human Resources policies and procedures.

• Actively support the mission, philosophy, and goals of the hospital.

• Communicate with sensitivity to growth, development, and cultural issues.

• Provide leadership, supervision, and direction to Charge Nurses, RNs, LVNs, MHTs, and Unit Clerks.

• Assess, direct, and intervene in crisis situations.

• Model age, growth, and developmentally appropriate therapeutic communication in all interactions.

• Exhibit regular & expected / required attendance.

• Maintain professional demeanor in dress, attitude, support of unit program, and hospital mission / philosophy.

Job Requirements

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of all facets of patient care, nursing and clinical systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of psychiatric and medical nursing procedures is essential.
  • Knowledge of all code procedures.
  • Knowledge of standards, regulations, and laws regarding acute psychiatric hospitals.
  • Knowledge of safety policies and procedures and ability to implement and adhere to safety guidelines.
  • Skill in organizing and prioritizing workloads to meet deadlines.
  • Skill in telephone etiquette and paging procedures.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients and co-workers.
  • Ability to communicate and compile data relating to patient care.
  • Ability to adhere to safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to use good judgment and to maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Ability to work as a team player.
  • Ability to demonstrate tact, resourcefulness, patience and dedication.
  • Ability to accept direction and adhere to policies and procedures.
  • Ability to recognize the importance of adapting to the various patient age groups (adult and geriatric).

Education:

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.  BSN preferred.

Licensure / Certification:

Current RN License to practice in the State of Texas

Current CPR certification

Experience:

At least 2 years psychiatric nursing experience in an acute setting. Experience conducting admissions in a psychiatric setting.

Nursing supervisory experience in a psychiatric setting preferred.
