Arbour Hospital, a 118 bed (106 Adult/12 Adolescent) private psychiatric facility located in Boston’s Jamaica Plain neighborhood; the hospital also manages an 18 bed satellite adult psychiatric unit in Quincy. Arbour Hospital is accredited by The Joint Commission and licensed by the MA Department of Mental Health.


Position Summary:
Arbour Hospital currently has Housekeeper positions available. The Housekeeper is responsible for maintaining a clean and safe environment for all staff and patients.

This is a per-diem position.


Main responsibilities:
1. Maintains all assigned patient rooms, ancillary areas and department areas in a clean, neat, and sanitary manner
2. Cleans assigned carts and equipment daily; ensures all items are returned in an orderly manner 100% of the time
3. Replenishes supplies such as: paper towels, toilet tissue, soap, etc; requests supplies and equipment as needed
4. Cleans or sanitizes after emergency spills as requested.
5. Ensures a safe, clean, attractive environment for patients, staff, and visitors at all times
6. Uses chemicals and solutions per department policy
7. Follows appropriate protocol following patient discharges
8. Thoroughly washes and sanitizes beds when patients are discharged; makes beds with clean linen in the prescribed manner at all times
9. Thoroughly cleans and sanitizes entire room and washroom when patients are discharged, utilizing established departmental guidelines and productivity measures.
10. Uses appropriate solutions in disinfecting rooms
11. Reports to work on time and/or is ready to report at change of shit 100% of the time
12. Demonstrates a positive, supportive attitude to patient families and the personnel consistently and in emergency and non-emergency situations
13. Maintains courteous and pleasant attitude 100% of the time to patients’ families
14. Maintains confidential patient and departmental information
15. Demonstrates efficient and safe use of housekeeping equipment and solutions
16. Identifies types of soiling and/or spotting and utilizes proper solutions
17. Handles chemicals and solutions per department policy
18. Ensures that all chemicals and solutions are in properly labeled containers at all times
19. Adheres to safety regulations as outlined in departmental policies (e.g. wet floor signs)
20. Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors and fellow employees to ensure professional responsible and courteous environment.
21. Participates in activities that enhance professional growth and development
22. Demonstrates conduct in keeping with UEIS ethical standards
23. Attends all required Safety Training programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety department/service safety, specific job-related hazards
24. Follows the Hospital Exposure Control Plans and Bloodborne and Airborne Pathogens
25. Performs other duties as assigned/needed.

 
Requirements

The following are the job requirements for the Housekeeper position:

  • High School Graduate or equivalent preferred
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp , perform repetitive motions with wrists, hands, and fingers. Requires constant standing; occasionally lift roto (100 Ibs) and regular lifting, carrying (50 Ibs) and moving of full buckets, equipment, dirty and clean linen, full trash bags, etc.
  • Mental Requirements: Ability to exercise self-control in potentially volatile situations
  • Experience in a hospital setting in housekeeping
