Position Description:
POSITION PURPOSE
Provide application expertise in designing, developing and testing system.  Participate in the creation of functional documents, and is able to translate functional requirements into technical requirements and validate business requirements through execution of detailed Integration test plans. Create or modify system diagrams that model business processes, system processes and system architecture. Design, develop and test complex software components and user interfaces in accordance with the adopted standards for integration into larger subsystems. Demonstrates strong application development skills and at times may lead small projects. Develop or update appropriate project and SOX compliance documentation and deploy high quality application code.

Communicates at an advanced level with peers, junior staff and all levels of management within IT and the client community. Support peers and mentor junior application developers. Displays good initiative, is self-motivated and learns new programming languages, databases and development techniques quickly and completely.
MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Translate business and functional requirements into technical specification utilizing flow charting tools to document system flow.
Demonstrate advanced technical ability, thoroughness and accuracy on all assignments.
Develop new or revise programs, producing high quality code that is maintainable and supportable, and which performs efficiently upon implementation and satisfies business specifications.
Mentor junior staff on development tasks.
Perform at a senior technical level making recommendations to redesign or re-engineer processes, program logic and systems where needed to support maintainability and scalability.
Correct logical errors using methods such as modifying programs or altering sequence of program modules to address problems and gain efficiencies.
Design and develop complex application components such as user and system interfaces, batch programs, conversions etc.
Adhere to IT guidelines and ensure that new program and system logic satisfies overall system requirements and integrates seamlessly into the business and system process flow.
Effectively write moderate and complex use cases and develop integrated test plan to validate program and system logic.
Address production support break-fix tasks in a timely manner and mentor junior staff in doing the same, keeping IT management and clients informed of status and resolutions.

ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS
Environment:
Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
Travel:
Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.

Education Required:
The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.

Physical Requirements:
Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive test plan to validate modified or newly developed code.
  • Validate the work of junior team member providing coaching on techniques as appropriate.
  • Ensure that project components satisfy business requirements through execution of detailed, integrated test plan.
  • Produce required test results and documentation for SOX compliance and assist junior members in doing the same.
  • During testing process, analyze and update programs to increase operating efficiency or to adapt programs to new requirements.
  • Coordinate the execution of client testing to satisfy all project testing requirements.
  • Analyze and resolve environmental execution errors and assist junior staff in doing the same.

 General:

  • All new or revised applications and production support will be performed with the goal of zero defects.
  • Identify root cause and resolves application problems as assigned making recommendations to improve program logic or process as appropriate.
  • Provide accurate time estimates for project tasks and practice good time management skills on assignments.
  • Demonstrate advanced and efficient coding techniques and display a high level of productivity.
  • Practice accountability and consistently utilizes JIRA/Tempo to report actual hours.
  • Communicate variances and/or obstacles in estimates or delivery dates to management in a timely manner.
  • Follow approved applications and technical architecture guidelines.
  • Possess the aptitude to grasp and implement new concepts.
  • Basic knowledge of Office suite of tools required to be effective and progress in the role.
  • Understand functional and technical specification phases of the Project Life Cycle and perform speci
  • fic tasks as assigned.
  • Prepare all required documentation following approved Life Cycle standards and assist junior staff in doing the same.
  • Demonstrate ability to reverse engineer program and system logic to gain understanding of and produce business and system flow diagrams.
  • Display initiative and is motivated to learn and mentor team members.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in providing after hour support on projects and conversions when needed.
  • Participate in on call rotation for production systems as required.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:
Required: RPG III/IV/ILE
Preferred: Supply Chain
Advanced understanding of analysis and design principles, coding and testing techniques and program languages and tools.
Ability to identify and understand business problems and opportunities and present multiple solutions for problem resolution.
Ability to demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills in both technical and non-technical terms.
Display excellent working knowledge of the application development process utilizing strong testing methodologies.
Ability to prioritize multiple tasks while maintaining deadlines.
