The Senior Corporate Counsel will be responsible for a broad range of litigation, regulatory and transactional matters. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong business acumen and the willingness and aptitude to balance the competing demands and priorities of the Company. The Senior Corporate Counsel will work closely with other members of the Legal Department, including The Home Depots Legal Department as well as internal business clients, as appropriate.
MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
50%- Legal matters with a strong focus on litigation and other third party claims, regulatory matters, intellectual property and commercial transactions;
25%- Managing litigation with the assistance of outside counsel for all assigned litigation matters related to , including providing strategic direction and partnering with business clients and other Legal Department associates to resolve claims and litigation
25%- Providing expert advice and counsel to business partners concerning complex legal-regulatory matters and ensure compliance with applicable laws and corporate policies
NATURE AND SCOPE
Reports to the Vice President of Legal. Has 2 direct reports.
ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS
Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
Typically requires overnight travel 5% to 20% of the time.
Additional Environmental Job Requirements:
Must be eighteen years of age or older.
Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.
Additional Minimum Qualifications:
The completion of a Juris Doctor or equivalent and required certifications for practicing law.
Years of Relevant Work Experience: 10 years
Most all of the time is spent sitting in the same position or standing/walking or there is some requirement to lift or handle material or equipment of moderate weight (8-20 pounds).
The principal duties of the Senior Corporate Counsel position will include, but not be limited to, the following:
Providing creative and practical counsel on a wide range of legal matters with a strong focus on litigation and other third party claims, regulatory matters, intellectual property and commercial transactions;
Managing litigation with the assistance of outside counsel for all assigned litigation matters related to , including providing strategic direction and partnering with business clients and other Legal Department associates to resolve claims and litigation;
Coordinating discovery responses, supervising the preparation of pleadings and other legal documents to ensure consistency and factual accuracy; and assisting with depositions and court proceedings, including witness preparation;
Monitoring legislative and regulatory activity, including enforcement actions, litigation and case law relevant to the Companys operations;
Providing expert advice and counsel to business partners concerning complex legal-regulatory matters and ensure compliance with applicable laws and corporate policies
Assisting in responding to governmental audits/examinations, customer complaints and/or inquiries from any state or federal agency;
proving the day-to-day management of the Companys intellectual property portfolio; and supporting and liaising with The Home Depot Legal Department with respect to Litigation, Risk Management, Regulatory and Intellectual Property matters; and performing such other tasks as directed by Manager.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:Education and Professional License:
Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school
Good standing with a state bar, The Florida Bar preferred
Professional Experience and Expertise:
Litigation and regulatory law experience, including experience with general commercial liability, products and premises liability, employment
claims and litigation, and property claims.
Both in-house and relevant private practice experience is strongly preferred
