Position Description:

Position Purpose
Serves as the IT Infrastructure technical designer for warehouse, data center, and corporate offices. The position requires a broad range of advanced IT Infrastructure knowledge and experience, with the principle focus on the creation and delivery of the overall IT Infrastructure environment inside a facility, to include all required electrical, network and telecom cabling, wireless network design, and physical IT systems installation. This includes contractor interaction and oversight of IT equipment installations, to include enclosures (racks and cabinets), systems interconnect cabling, proper electrical services, and interconnection pathways for any ancilliary systems (such as paging, music on hold, cellular signal repeater systems, CCTV (IP and Analog Video), and Access Control system devices. The ability to interact effectively and accurately with outside contractors (especially electrical and telecommunication) is essential to the successful completion of assigned duties. Postion also will report on the status of all assigned projects to the assigned IT Project Manager, and will also coordinate all design parameters with the assistance of the applicable internal IT technical resources. This is a field services delivery position

Major Tasks, Responsibilities & Key Accountabilities
30% - Planning and analysis: Creates and/or modifies floorplan drawings so they accurately represent the physical dimensions of the building or space, to include exterior and interior walls, support columns, windows, doors, electrical panel locations, main points of entry for electrical and communication services.
30% - Delivery and execution: Conduct initial on-site surveys, with or without IT contractor involvement, for the purpose of identifying all key Infrastructure parameters.
20% - Project coordination: Creates or assists in the creation of all project task outlines and project summaries to IT Project managers and senior IT executives via regular status updates on assigned major milestones throughout the course of a project.
10% - Communications: Communicates effectively by issuing appropriate, timely, and properly formed written and/or oral communications, while accurately defining and taking into consideration the scope, severity, and/or audience associated with the communication.
10% - Documentation: Documents all technical systems information for on-site equipment into the appropriate databases. Nature and Scope

Nature and Scope
This position reports to the Director of IT Communications and Special Projects.  This position has 8 direct reports.

Environmental Job Requirements: 
Typically in a comfortable environment but with regular exposure to factors such as temperature extremes, moving machinery, loud noise, and fumes which cause noticeable discomfort or a moderate risk of accident or illness.

Travel Typically requires overnight travel 50 - 75% of the time.


Minimum Qualifications 
Must be eighteen years of age or older. 
Must be legally permitted to work in the United States

Education Required
The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a high school diplomas and/or GED.

Years of Relevant Work Experience: 
5 years

Physical Requirements
Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies

  • Demonstrates an understanding of core US-standard telecommunications service technical concepts to include: analog, digital/TDM, and IP/SIP-based wire-line voice and data services.  
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of electrical and telecommunication wiring standards, color codes, and adherence to established IT standards by effectively identifying installation issues and resolving with assigned contractors.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of AC Power wiring standards, outlet codes, and electrical plan diagramming standards necessary to communicate site IT requirements to outside contractors.
  • Demonstrates a basic knowledge of wired voice and data communication delivery systems by accurately and effectively communicating technical installation requirements to third-party vendors as necessary to efficiently and successfully install these services.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of Local and Wide Area IP networking fundamentals, to include: IP network structural characteristics (Layer 1), the physical, electrical, and cooling requirements of installed hardware components, and the fundamentals associated with the design and delivery of wireless Ethernet-based networks.  Demonstrates knowledge and operating skills by using the following tools to effectively and efficiently evaluate existing IT Infrastructure components and services: AC/DC Multi-meter Tone probe kit LAN Test Set
  • Demonstrates an understanding of common interfacing technologies by accurately describing the general operating principles necessary to successfully implement interactions
