Havenwyck Hospital is a 243 bed, Joint Commission accredited and licensed psychiatric and substance abuse facility. We specializing in providing behavioral health and substance abuse treatment and are located in Auburn Hills overlooking Lake Galloway. 

Havenwyck Hospital provides a continuum of individualized treatment to children, adolescents and adults needing psychiatric and/or substance abuse treatment. Havenwyck strives to create a customized treatment plan for each individual based on level of maturity, life experiences, needs and other factors. Patients at Havenwyck are treated by a qualified multi-disciplinary team, including, but not limited to, a psychiatrist, registered nurses, social workers and recreational therapists, in a warm, supportive environment. Havenwyck Hospital's Residential Treatment Center is a secure treatment program for children and adolescents ages 8 to 17, with emotional and/or behavioral impairments that require them to be in a secure, 24-hour supervised therapeutic living situation. For more information, please visit our website at 

Havenwyck Hospital is seeking a dynamic and talented Staff Educator/ Infection Control Preventionist to join our team of compassionate, dedicated professionals.

Staff Educator key responsibilities:

  • Working under the direction of the Chief Nursing Officer coordinates with nursing service in designing, evaluating, planning, presenting, and reviewing educational programs to meet the needs of orientation, inservice education, and continuing education of hospital personnel.
  • Completes all nursing education in required time frames and ensures compliance with all standards of practice and regulatory requirements.  Implements as needed education in order to improve and enhance nursing practice within the Hospital.
  • Coordinates and trains existing employees on new policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates and trains RN new hires on the units, monitors and documents progression during the first year of hire.
  • Performs the re-training required for staff performance improvement plans as assigned by unit managers. 
  • Presents a yearly plan for staff development based on identified learning needs of personnel, licensing, OSHA, CMS and TJC standards.  Conducts learning needs assessments, makes rounds on patient care units, interacts with all departments, and serves on committees in order to identify learning needs.
  • Participates in the selection of audiovisual and other resources.
  • Provides Nursing education in the hospital orientation program to all new hire nurses and students utilizing Havenwyck Hospital for practicum experience.
  • Maintains records of general hospital orientation and mandatory in-service attendance.
  • Schedules monthly hospital required in-services and follows up with employees and managers to maintain compliance.
  • Responsible for nursing student and allied health internship programs.
  • Attends seminars and programs related to psychiatric nursing to maintain up to date knowledge of developments in these areas.
  • Reviews journal articles, makes recommendations to the Senior Leadership team on evidence based practices to consider for implementation, and distributes to the appropriate departments.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of staff development plan through participation in Performance Improvement activities.  Provides evaluation summary report of staff development program at year end and quarterly report to Board of Directors and Executive Committees


 Infection Control Preventionist key responsibilities:

  • Working under the direction of the Chief Nursing Officer, he/she will implement an effective Infection Control Program
  • Acts as a liaison between the Infection Control Committee and all other departments in the Hospital.
  • Creates yearly infection control plan for the hospital analyzing progress towards goals and identifying new potential areas of risk. 
  • Conducts infection control rounds and maintains PPE equipment as instructed. 
  • Conducts orientation and in-service education programs for personnel on prevention and control of infections.
  • Prepares a monthly report of statistical data for the Infection Control Committee and distributes to the Chief Nursing Officer and Executive and Medical Staff Committees.
  • Reports to the County Health Department any reportable diseases, and works with the Health Department in complying with any problems related to the outbreak and control of communicable diseases.
  • Makes rounds to patient care units and assists where appropriate in resolving problems and concerns.
  • Participates in the formulation and revision of hospital policies and/or procedures dealing with infection control.
  • Exercises authority in putting into action such control measures as isolation and corrective actions when any severe breaks in technique occur which require prompt remedial action.
  • Acts as a consultant to nursing and medical staff concerning Infection Control of Employee Health matters.
  • Performs Performance Improvement Functions for the Infection Control Program.  Reports Performance Improvement activities to the PI Coordinator and to the Hospital wide PIC.
  • Prepares the agenda for and participates in all Infection Control Committee meetings.
  • Participates in assigned committees.


A $4,000.00 sign on bonus available for qualified newly hired candidates. A 24-month commitment is required.

Job Requirements
  • Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.  Associate’s degree required, Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Current and valid RN license in the State of Michigan required.
  • Additional educational preparation is desirable in the areas of Epidemiology.
  • A minimum of four years medical-surgical nursing experience preferred. One year experience in Infection Control is desirable, but not essential.
  • Experience with providing opportunities to refine competencies in nursing practice and the application of administrative principles required.
  • Knowledge of instructional skills, skill analysis, and group dynamics.  Thorough knowledge of techniques and methods of adult education required.
  • One year of management or Charge RN experience required.
  • Additional educational preparation or certification is desirable.
  • Certification as a BCLS: CPR instructor preferred.
  • Employees must be in good standing (employment/corrective action history, evaluation, etc.) to be considered for internal transfers.
