Job Requirements

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Infection Control Nurse is responsible for coordinating and monitoring the surveillance for infection control and investigating clusters of infection or single cases of nosocomial infections. The Infection Control Nurse is responsible for reporting actual infections to the appropriate sources. She/he initiates culture and sensitivity testing if warranted. The Infection Control Nurse is responsible for instituting appropriate isolation procedures when warranted.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Graduate of an approved/accredited school of nursing current licensure or work permit in the state of Kentucky. Completion of APIC approved training “Fundamentals of Surveillance,” or under supervision of APIC certified nurse and working towards eligibility for Infection Control by an approved certification board in this specialty.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral and diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must be able to express or exchange ideas by means of spoken and written word.
