Description:

The GBTS project manager is responsible for managing all phases of a project (Initiation, Planning, Execution, Control, and Close-out). To accomplish this role, the project manager is responsible to:

  • Create scope or project charter documents, and acceptance criteria.
  • Create and maintain project plans and project schedules.
  • Create and maintain issues lists and risk tracking lists.
  • Create and maintain a resource roles & responsibilities chart.
  • Create and maintain a communications plan.
  • Create and maintain regular status reports for the project sponsor and other stakeholders.

As Agile methodologies are used more commonly within Prudential, the project manager will be responsible to support the processes and documentation required for Agile.

 

The project manager is responsible to coordinate the effort of the project team members to ensure that all project tasks are completed on schedule.

The project manager is responsible to track issues, and escalate as necessary to project sponsors or GBTS executives to achieve resolution. The project manager is responsible to communicate project status, and maintain all project document artifacts, so that the project sponsor and all stakeholders are aware of the project health.

 

Because this is an information technology (IT) project manager position, the candidate must possess a developed understanding of the technology infrastructure, and a general understanding of how business applications interface with infrastructure, to effectively manage all aspects of the project. The IT project manager often serves in the role of liaison between technology infrastructure and business application personnel.

 

The project manager is ultimately accountable to ensure that the project produces deliverables/outputs that meet business requirements, including scope, functionality, cost, schedule, and quality, as agreed upon during the process of project initiation.

 

 

Skills and Experience Required of a Project Manager candidate

 

Education

 

  • Preferred: BS or BA in Information Systems / Information Technology Management or Business with Information Systems minor. The candidate must have a bachelors degree.
  • Project Management Professional certification is desired, but not required.

 

Hard Skills

 

Project Management Experience

 

  • The successful candidate should have 1-2 years of project management experience, preferably in the information technology field.
  • The candidate should be familiar with the Project Management Institute (PMI) project life cycle.
  • AGILE project management experience is desired, but not required.

Technology

 

The IT project manager should have general technology infrastructure knowledge for the following:

 

  • PCs – desktops and laptops
  • Servers – Wintel, UNIX
  • Storage
  • Networks
  • Telephony
  • Printing
  • Application middleware, such as databases, file transfer, messaging, web servers, etc.

 

In addition, the IT project manager should have an understanding of technology operational processes for installation, support, and maintenance of various technologies. This knowledge is necessary to deploy infrastructure in support of applications critical to business success.

 

Experience with Cloud infrastructure or Cloud application projects is a plus.

 

Tools

 

The project manager should have the following office productivity tool skills:

 

  • Able to effectively use Microsoft Project – for project schedules.
  • Able to effectively use Microsoft Word – for project documentation, such as scope documents, meeting minutes, etc.
  • Able to effectively use Microsoft Excel – for project data analysis.

 

Soft Skills

 

Ninety percent of a project manager’s job is communications; therefore, the candidate should have the following soft skills:

 

  • Strong oral communication skills, as the project manager must lead meetings, coordinate project resources, coordinate issues resolution, and provide status to project stakeholders.
  • Strong written communication skills.
