 ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS

 

Ø  Knowledge of medical terminology.

Ø  Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and non-verbally.

Ø  Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills, ability to interact diplomatically and to maintain a professional demeanor with physicians, the public and hospital staff at all times.

Ø  Ability to discuss personal and financial matters with patients and/or their representatives.

Ø  Good problem solving and process efficiency skills.

Ø  Knowledge of insurance benefits, covered services, billing, and collection procedures for all insurance programs for acute facilities.

Ø  Essential knowledge of California collection law, insurance billing and reimbursement rules / regulations, COBRA, EMTALA and federal / state regulations.

Ø  Experience with HMO and self pay collections.

Ø  Experience in screening patient for various state and county assistance programs

Ø  General knowledge of office procedures and ability to utilize resource in an organized manner.

Ø  Type 35-40 words per minute.

Ø  Knowledge of computer keyboard

 

 
Requirements

 MINIMUM ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE

 

Ø  Two years experience in a hospital admitting or medical business office. 

Ø  Computer experience preferred.

 

 MINIMUM ESSENTIAL EDUCATION

 

Ø  None.
