River Oaks Hospital, located in metropolitan New Orleans, Louisiana, is a private psychiatric facility for adults, adolescents and children. Since 1970, River Oaks has established a tradition of excellence in the treatment of acute psychiatric illness, dual diagnosis, alcohol and drug detoxification, trauma based disorders, compulsive behaviors, and eating disorders, River Oaks has provided quality treatment to service individuals suffering from mental illness, and/or addictive disorders. Situated on a 14 acre campus, services are available at all levels of care (inpatient, day or partial hospitalization, outpatient, and intensive outpatient).

River Oaks Hospital is seeking a dynamic and talented Admissions and Referral/ Intake Counselor.  Key Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Provides initial assessment and counseling of patients, by phone, scheduled admits or walk-in clients;
  • Responds to each person/family in a timely manner with appropriate clinical intervention and judgment, provides immediate information and emotional support according to need and within departmental policy, provides additional evaluation/consultation as deemed necessary (i.e. psychiatric assessment);
  • Ensures smooth transition of admission process to alleviate anxieties in discussing treatment, financial responsibility, etc.;
  • Adheres to policies and procedures as needed, utilizing all components required of admissions and referral services;
  • Observes confidentiality and safeguards all patient and employee related information.



Job Requirements


  • Master’s degree within the field of mental health, counseling, social work, etc.;  active, unencumbered Louisiana license as an LCSW or LPC preferred;
  • Minimum 3 years previous experience in crisis intervention or a psychiatric setting
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, both in person and over the phone, presents a positive, friendly and helpful attitude in daily interactions with patients, staff and visitors;
  • Flexibility in scheduling and in duties assigned; work in a team approach;
  • Ability to set priorities and work well in a fast paced environment.
