The Admissions Counselor is responsible for the timely processing of inquiry/referral calls and walk-in/scheduled crisis assessments, ensuring their referral to the most appropriate service.  The Admissions Counselor will help to coordinate and process each admission into the hospital,  be responsible for problem-solving with clinical staff, payer sources, and referral sources to ensure that admissions to all levels of care are processed correctly.  The Admissions Counselor maintains focused attention on patient safety, hazard searches and appropriate logging and storage of patient valuables;  provides appropriate crisis intervention as necessary by anticipating and responding quickly to escalating behaviors, utilizing de-escalation techniques to diffuse the situation; and displays knowledge of ethical principles and compliance issues in a healthcare setting.

Job Requirements


  • RN license or Master's Degree in Behavioral Health field (e.g. Counseling, Social Work, Psychology) required.
  • Current Handle With Care (HWC) certification (training provided)
  • Current CPR certification (training provided)

Experience:  Experience in psychiatric evaluation, triage, and crisis stabilization preferred; strong assessment skills required; skills in application of DSM methodology; excellent telephone etiquette and tact; ability to interact effectively with persons of widely diverse roles, backgrounds, cultures, and socio-economic classes, those in crisis or resistant or negative toward organization; effective oral and written communication skills; basic data entry skills preferred; organizational, time management, problem solving, crisis management skills necessary; flexibility, creativity, and ability to manage stress necessary.  Understanding of EMTALA guidelines, mandatory screening agent usage, HIPAA regulations, and third-party payer knowledge preferred.

**Day and Night shift positions available. Hours are 7am-7pm, or 7pm-7am.  Must be available to work 12 hour shifts.
