Texoma Medical Center, a 351-bed acute care facility has been providing quality health care to the residents of North Texas and Southern Oklahoma since 1965. POSITION SUMMARY:   Under the general supervision of the Laboratory Supervisor, the Laboratory Assistant, is responsible for providing quality customer oriented laboratory services including specimen procurement, specimen processing and related specialized procedures, and service to effectively communicate information to users of the Laboratory Services in order to ensure the department is able to operate efficiently and to successfully fulfill its mission. Laboratory Assistant will assist with billing and charge reconciliation, client support services, light courier duties, and may be able to cross train to pathology transcription.

 

 

Job Requirements

We are seeking an individual with previous hospital experience to provide service excellence for a full time Monday - Friday opening.

Associate's degree is preferred. Previous college coursework is essential to the position( Medical Terminology, Microbiology, and Anatomy and Physiology)

Must have excellent interpersonal relationship skills for working with other staff, physicians, patients and the public.

Sits one to three hours per day typing, proofreading and filing. Stands/walks five to seven hours processing specimens and cover-slipping

Exposure to fumes, toxins, biological specimens, chemicals, bio-hazardous material and needles in the laboratory environment.

Prepares pathology accession logs and specimens for transport to other facilities.

May transcribe from dictation gross pathology and micro pathology reports, as needed for locum pathologist coverage.

Phone coverage, slide and block filing, handling of  pathology reports, pathology specimen collection, pathology specimen accessioning.

The individual selected for this position will be highly motivated and MUST have previous experience in a hospital environment of at least 200 beds or more.
