Position Summary:

Responsible to manage the clinical laboratory, assuring reliable, high-quality diagnostic test results expeditiously delivered to practitioners. Provides efficient and effective leadership of laboratory staff. Performs clinical testing in the following laboratory areas: blood bank, chemistry, serology, hematology, urinalysis, coagulation, special chemistry, and microbiology. Obtains or receives specimens, performs laboratory tests according to written procedures, understands methods and principles, performs and evaluates quality control on a daily basis. Performs preventive maintenance on instrumentation and interprets results as to their accuracy, acceptability and critical limits and informs the physician/nurse of critical values. Works independently, organizing work to meet established deadlines and records all data obtained.

Supervises daily laboratory operations to ensure efficiency and timeliness in provision of services by constant enforcement of inspecting agency standards.
Prepares and monitors quality control charts, instrument function checks, and instrument maintenance protocols to ensure quality and integrity of results.
Draws, processes and tests patients’ samples using waived and/or moderately complex analytical tests and equipment.
Performs and documents quality control and quality assurance procedures.
Ensures compliance with state and federal requirements for clinical laboratories.
Schedules appropriate laboratory personnel to ensure proper numbers and skill levels to handle the daily workload.



Certification, Registration, or Licensure: Nevada certification as General Supervisor. National certification in Medical Technology by ASCP or equivalent.

Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or related field.

Minimum Experience: Four years working experience as a general medical technologist in a leadership position preferred.

Other: Ability to work independently, read and analyze technical material and communicate effectively
verbally and in writing. Must be able to handle and process confidential information. Must understand and use universal precautions. Recognize that work environment includes exposure to infection from disease bearing specimens, electrical and radiant energy hazards, odorous chemicals and specimens.
