Positions in this function perform various duties related to the fulfillment of prescription orders. Interprets physicians' prescriptions and creates order, accesses, inputs, and retrieves prescription information from computer system, verifies whether order is reimbursable. Dispenses any or all of the following: unit doses, specialty pharmaceuticals and injectables, and may compound medications. Consults with customers, patients and / or physicians regarding use of medications and potential drug interactions. Consultations may be telephonic or in person. Reviews and approves / denies requests for prescription prior authorizations. Pharmacists must have a current license without restrictions and Lead PharmacyTechnicians must have current State License or National Certification without restrictions based on regulatory requirements of worksite.
 
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Troubleshooting issues within the health plan
  • Assisting Case Managers on an individual member basis by working through the member's pharmacy-related barriers
  • Providing support to the Pharmacy Director
  • Conducting basic reporting and analysis
  • Researching members or physicians concerns by assisting pharmacies in claims adjudication and prescriber coordination
  • Proactive identification and intervening on behalf of members at risk, who are not already in case management
  • Expand provider educational efforts via individual and mass communication as negative trends are identified
  • Support members education by improving pharmacy-related health literacy with benefit navigation assistance
  • Extensive work experience, possibly in multiple functions
