As a Lead UX Designer at Home Depot you will own end-to-end customer-focused programs on HomeDepot.com. You will work across teams to successfully translate business objectives and customer needs into innovative and best-in-class, customer-centric solutions.

The Lead UX Designer is responsible for delivering the vision, experience and creative strategy for their respective projects and products. To do this, you will need to build strong relationships with product management peers, other UX teams, development and other critical partners to establish and deliver on the business and customer requirements that enhance our digital experiences and products, meets the business goals and strengthens our Home Depot differentiation strategies. You would do this through research, competitive analysis, design sprints, lean UX, formal in person testing and interviews with customers and associates.

An ideal candidate will have a portfolio of artifacts showing their understanding of the UX process. Design is a process of research, learning, testing and iteration and you can show how that leads to a final deliverable. You are highly collaborative; leaning on your team and peers for constructive feedback and not afraid to share your feedback. You bring a design thinking mentality and passion for doing the right thing for the user to solve their problems and ease their friction points. You want to own the experience and bring your knowledge and experience to building the next Home Depot.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities, and Key Accountabilities:
  • 25% Consulting with stakeholders/development team to understand their goals and explaining research results
  • 30% Creating product prototypes, mockups, site maps, process flows, journey maps
  • 15% Managing multiple projects and delegating work if applicable
  • 15% Conducting usability testing, competitor and customer analysis
  • 10% Analyzing user feedback and activity, and iterating to enhance the user experience
  • 5% Developing personas and usage scenarios

Nature & Scope:

  • Position reports to the Sr. UX Manager
  • No direct reports.

Environment:
  • Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
Travel:
  • Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.


ESSENTIAL SKILLS:
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be eighteen years of age or older.
  • Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.

Education Required:
  • The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.

Years of Relevant Work Experience:
5 years

Physical Requirements:

  • Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Mastery of all the latest design tools, and versions of applicable software programs: Mac OSX, Sketch (or similar), Photoshop, Illustrator.
  • Bonus Skills: Axure, UserTesting.com, Invision

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous project leadership experience in a retail environment or advertising agency
  • Demonstrated user experience design skills with expert knowledge of current design programs
  • Understanding of the capabilities and limitations of HTML, DHTML, CSS, JavaScript
  • Understanding of browser display differences on different platforms
  • Demonstrated experience in designing creative and web pages for e-commerce websites

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:
  • Establishes new vision for area using UX methods for discovery and validation.
  • Works with product team to develop actionable roadmap (Identifies how to break vision down into achievable initiatives)
  • Communicates strategy and executional roadmap to IX leadership
  • Serves as facilitator in cross-functional design efforts (design sprints, etc.)
  • Understands company strategy and proactively identifies needs, establishes plans, organizes people and resources to deliver
  • Has the drive to own large efforts across work streams
  • Establishes and improves on processes
  • Establishes new vision for area using UX methods for discovery and validation. Identifies how to break it down into achievable initiatives. Communicates vision to IX leadership
  • Leads cross-functional team in design efforts (design sprints, etc.)
  • Coach/mentor other members of the team. Are sought out for feedback.
  • Has multiple UX strengths (interaction, visual, content strategy, usability)
  • Gives talks on UX @ THD within and outside THD
  • Has a good sensitivity to constraints (organizational, technical, scheduling)
