This position fills the role of advisor to the QFNA marketing and business team as it executes packaging, marketing, advertising and promotions initiatives for its product portfolio in the US. An emphasis is placed on legal evaluations of formulations and ingredients compliance, product claims and labels, new product innovations, marketing and advertising, consumer engagement (talent and sponsorship agreements).

The role will report to the Legal Senior Director, Quaker Foods North America. The Director is expected to closely collaborate with other PEP marketing counsels as well as the counsels for Procurement, Trademarks, and IP/R&D counsel for Nutrition R&D.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Provide functional expertise in food labeling, advertising, marketing, and promotion laws.
  • Advise the subject matter experts for the Quaker, Rice-A-Roni, Near East, and Aunt Jemima brands.
  • Day to day activities include package and label review, advertising and promotional copy review, and contract drafting.
  • Provide early and continuous legal analysis and advice to minimize legal and reputational risks.
  • Provide legal support for the QFNA product development process from ideation through launch.
  • Represent QFNA in contract negotiations with agency, licensing, sponsorship, promotional and a wide variety of main stream and emerging media partners and draft related contracts and documents.
  • Develop and provide training to marketing on legal topics of substantive relevance to the team.
  • Coordinate involvement of legal colleagues (trademarks, patents, regulatory law) in a timely manner.
  • Liaise with other BU marketing counsels to insure consistency in the adoption and application of marketing and advertising concepts rolling out in US markets.


  • Minimum of 5 years experience in counseling on US food labeling laws and food advertising and marketing with an in-depth knowledge of U.S. food and marketing regulatory laws.
  • Experience with advertising and promotions using emerging media and a variety of social of platforms a plus.
  • Experience with FSMA and food safety issues a plus.
  • JD degree, a member of at least one state bar.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills are essential. Ability to clearly communicate with business leaders, other in-house counsel, outside marketing and regulatory counsel, and government representatives is essential.
  • Inherent leadership skills and ability to inspire confidence in client base are prerequisites for effective counseling in this position.
  • Team player with a collaborative approach and mindset who has the foresight to anticipate issues and include others on a timely basis so business objectives remain on-track.
  • Native intellectual curiosity and mental stamina to deal with multiple complex issues.
  • Ability to project and explain the consequences of actions contemplated by the business and others.
  • Ability to grasp technical concepts around nutrition the basis for substantiating business and product positions in the nutrition and wellness areas.
  • Superior organizational and prioritization skills.
