This individual will provide oversight and guidance to the legal functions in the Emerging North Asia Cluster (ENAC) as follows: Thailand/Indochina, Vietnam and Pakistan. He/she will also be the Regional TA Legal Support for one of the therapeutic areas in the PIH Group in Emerging Markets for Asia.

This position reports directly to the International Pharma Legal Lead APAC and shall concurrently be directly responsible as lead for the legal function in one of the countries in the ENAC.

Current or previous in-country legal function management experience is required for the role.

+ **Responsibilities**

+ **Regional TA Legal Support role**

+ Organises, directs and leads the legal function in the relevant TA Group within the Emerging Markets Asia region in order to maximise business opportunities, identify and resolve potential legal problems and minimise commercial exposure within the law.

+ Is a member of the relevant regional PIH Emerging BU or TA Leadership Team, as may be applicable, and contributes to the management of and development of strategy, using experience and legal expertise to add value to debate and decision-making.

+ Aligns with relevant EM Asia country attorneys to provide effective, commercially-oriented advice, while identifying & addressing exposure to risk. Manages the matrix and maintains an open and regular dialogue with countries in the region to ensure consistent legal support.

+ Provides innovative, business solution oriented legal counsel and advice for regional TA Group and product matters, including those with significant enterprise level impact using a high level of business knowledge and understanding of the external environment.

+ Proactively advises the Chief Counsel and other relevant legal colleagues on regional or cross-country issues that require escalation.

+ On a rotational basis, can also sit as Legal Representative in the PIH LT, EM Asia

+ **Cluster Lead Role**

+ In addition to the Regional TA Legal Support role, manages a team of legal professionals across the ENAC; responsible for building a highly skilled legal team, developing colleague capability and positioning the countries for success now and in the future.

+ In collaboration with the International Pharma Legal Lead for APAC and business leadership, sets legal team strategy and goals for providing proactive, objective, day-to-day legal support to the ENAC across all businesses.

+ Accountable for ensuring optimal business and country-specific legal support for the NAGC. Helps manage the legal budget for the ENAC, monitoring expenditure to ensure services are cost effective and within agreed budgetary constraints.

+ Manages the matrix in order to proactively advise the International Pharma Legal Lead for APAC, Chief Counsels and appropriate business leaders on country, regional or environmental issues that require escalation and offers timely, innovative and practical solutions.

+ Stays current on legislative changes, global healthcare trends and other environmental issues related to the development, marketing and sale of pharmaceuticals and ensures that lawyers and clients are educated and informed about relevant legal issues and principles in order to pre-empt problems.

+ **Country Legal Leadership Role**

+ Concurrent with the previous roles as described, lead the legal function in any of the markets belonging to the ENAC (separate description under Legal Director Role)

+ **General**

+ Acts as a powerful advocate for clients while championing the interests of the Pfizer enterprise.

+ Full member of the Asia Legal Leadership team, responsible for partnering with the International Pharma legal Lead and other International Platform Leadership members in setting and executing strategy for the international platform, managing talent and building an ownership culture.

+ Leads using the Legal Division Commitments, embedding our shared priorities within the platform and creating an ownership culture where compliance is a priority.


+ Licensed to practice law, preferably in any of the Asia markets.

+ Minimum of 12 years of post-qualification experience, preferably in the pharmaceutical industry.

+ Significant and broad experience of advising on commercial, corporate & pharmaceutical matters. Strong drafting skills.

+ In depth understanding of the pharmaceutical industry and of Pfizer (including structure, culture, relevant policies and procedures).

+ Proven ability to cultivate strong client relationships, build credibility and successfully influence leadership in a fast paced business climate.

+ Strategic and proactive. Anticipates needs and able to prioritize quickly.

+ Role model for open/clear communication and interpersonal skills at all levels in the company.

+ Credible influencer.

+ Possesses a high energy level, sense of urgency, creativity, decisiveness, and ability to work well independently or in a team and under pressure.

+ Management skills: track record in developing legal staff and dealing appropriately with performance issues.

+ Track record of managing a budget.

+ Culturally sensitive and able to interact effectively with colleagues and clients from varied backgrounds. Comfortable navigating across multiple countries.

+ Demonstrated experience and success in managing and working within a complex matrixed environment. Experienced decision maker who builds accountability within the team while appropriately communicating and escalating critical business issues.

+ Enterprise mindset; able to prioritize without bias.

+ A leader who role models the Legal Division Commitments and is capable of helping to drive the type of division and culture we want to create.
