Position Description:
POSITION PURPOSE

This position provides professional legal support in handling commercial litigation matters, primarily commercial class action lawsuits.  Typical matters also involve antitrust and construction litigation.  May also handle or assist with customer foreclosure matters.  Typical legal support includes coordinating discovery responses and information collection, coordinating with witnesses and business contacts, drafting of legal and business communication, basic legal research, and general file management. 

MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Handles day-to-day administration of all claims, lawsuits, litigation, filings, etc.
  • Gathers relevant documents and conducts research for discovery purposes, obtain affidavits, etc.
  • Interviews witnesses
  • Coordinates with outside counsel and business partners
  • Utilizes various software systems for legal hold notices, case administration, and information gathering
  • Processes all pertinent legal documents and correspondence under supervision of a Corporate Counsel
  • Answers calls from the field (i.e., stores, district, etc.) and dispenses legal advice commensurate with experience (i.e., on matters not requiring the input from a Corporate Counsel) 
NATURE AND SCOPE
  • Typically reports to a Senior Corporate Counsel, Corporate Counsel or Manager
  • Generally has no direct reports, but may supervise a clerk
  • Typically, once given general assignments, determines priorities and defines what should be done and how to do it
  • Typically utilizes diverse procedures for analyzing situations and making conclusions
  • Typically considers among many different options or procedures when solving problems 
ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS
Environment:

Intermittent periods of concentration and focused attention using one or more senses of low intensity and short duration.

Travel:
Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must be eighteen years of age or older.
Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.
Additional Minimum Qualifications:

Education Required:

The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job. 

Years of Relevant Work Experience: 2 years
Physical Requirements:
Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.
Additional Qualifications:
Legally eligible to work in the United States
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 3-5 years experience as a paralegal in a law firm or corporate legal department, or 3-5 years experience as a claims adjuster or manager at a claims management company or insurer
  • Paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved program, or equivalent claims management certificate
  • Experience in commercial litigation including contract disputes, business torts, class actions, antitrust, construction, and real estate law
  • Customer service experience
