Laurel Oaks Behavioral Health Center is a 118 bed Acute Psychiatric Hospital and Residential Treatment Center for children and adolescents ages four through eighteen. The 55,000 square foot facility is situated on approximately 10 acres in the southeast corner of Alabama, less than 20 miles from both Florida and Georgia. In addition to the living units, the facility houses our full service cafeteria and New Day Academy; a state-supported year-round K-12th grade school with vocational opportunities. We provide numerous recreational activities including an in-ground swimming pool, game room, playground, basketball courts, and gymnasium. The multi-disciplinary staff at Laurel Oaks collaborates to ensure that services provided are clinically and medically appropriate and highly coordinated among all treatment disciplines. Laurel Oaks specializes in the treatment of youth who have multiple challenges and special needs. All children served at Laurel Oaks have a primary psychiatric disorder but most also have co-occurring conditions such as intellectual disabilities, learning disabilities, and/or physical/sexual abuse victimization. Laurel Oaks Behavioral Health Center is currently seeking Licensed Practical Nurses for various shifts. The Licensed Practical Nurse will:


Demonstrates knowledge, effectiveness and efficiency in providing nursing care.

Provides nursing care based on the patient’s nursing care plan under the direction of the physician.


Observes patient behavior and notifies appropriate staff.


Assists in maintaining a safe, therapeutic environment that respects patient’s rights.


Assists the physician with physical exams.


Collects routine urine specimens, clean catch urine specimens, stool specimens, and sputum specimens; takes temperatures, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure counts; and weighs patients as directed by the physician.


Assist with admissions, discharge, and transfer of patients.


Follows instructions outlined in the policies and procedures.


Completes rounds and observes precautions and documents.


Serves as a role model for patients.


Ensures that patients and families are oriented to the hospital and unit program.


Collaborates with members of the other disciplines.


Demonstrates awareness of unit policies to include contraband and sharps, search policy, and understands significance of enforcing these policies to promote a safe, drug-free environment.




Job Requirements

Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.

Current status as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Alabama.

One (1) year of experience in psychiatric nursing preferred.

LPN must have credentials to direct physical management of the patient and have current CPR certification
