Job Description

The LPN performs under the direction of a Registered Nurse in providing nursing care to assigned patients, utilizing basic understanding of psychiatric and personality disorders.

Job Requirements

Education:    Graduate from an accredited professional vocational school of nursing .

Experience: Minimum one (1) year as a LPN in psychiatric nursing preferred.  Must be working toward RN.

Licensure: Licensed to practice vocational/practical nursing from the State Board of Nursing.

1.   Knowledge of psychiatric and medical nursing procedures and knowledge and implementation of psychiatric, medical and A.N.A. standards and nursing procedures that meet standards including State Nurse Practice Act and Code of Ethics.

2.   Basic knowledge of psychiatric and personality disorders.

3.   Knowledge of the implementation of milieu management and therapeutic interaction.

4.   Skill in organizing and prioritizing workloads to meet deadlines.

5.   Skill in telephone etiquette and paging procedures.

6.   Effective oral and written communication skills.

7.   Ability to communicate effectively with patients and co-workers.

8.   Ability to adhere to safety policies and procedures.

9.   Ability to use good judgment and to maintain confidentiality of information.

10.  Ability to work as a team player.

11.  Ability to demonstrate tact, resourcefulness, patience and dedication.

12.  Ability to accept direction and adhere to policies and procedures.

13.  Ability to recognize the importance of adapting to the various patient age groups (adolescent, adult and geriatric).

14.  Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

15.  Ability to meet corporate deadlines.

16.  Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
