Job Description


Provides prescribed medical treatment for students/residents by performing the following duties and furthermore ensure compliance with governmental requirements, organizational systems, licensing regulations, policies and procedures, CARF standards, HIPPA policies, and operating requirements.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


____ 1. Takes and records patients' vital signs. Dresses wounds and apples topical medications.


____ 2. Applies compresses, ice bags, and hot water bottles.


____ 3. Observes students/residents and reports adverse reactions to medication or treatment to medical

             personnel in charge.


____ 4. Administers specified medication, orally or by subcutaneous or intermuscular injection, and notes

              time and amount on patients' charts.


____ 5. Collects samples, such as urine, blood, and sputum, from students/residents for testing and

             performs routine laboratory tests on samples.


____ 6. Transcribes physicians' orders from charts. Transcribes medication administration records.


____ 7. Orders medications from pharmacists and medical supplies from approved vendors.


____ 8. Conduct sick call or treatment screening.


____ 9. Document all treatment by individual student/resident charting.


____ 10. Assist physicians and psychiatrists with visits to facilities.


____ 11. Administer first aid to staff, students, and residents as required.


____ 12. Perform required drug screens.


____ 13. Perform new students/residents admission assessments, including blood samples, TB testing,          and cultures, and compile medical histories.


____ 14. Administer Hepatitis B vaccines, TB testing, other vaccines and appropriate testing for

               employees as required by organization and/or governmental and contractual guidelines.


____ 15. Counsel students/residents on medical treatments and medications.


____ 16. Inventories and requisitions supplies.

        One year certificate from college or technical school; and three to six months related experience

        and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.



        Valid State Nursing License  



        Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports,

        and legal documents.  Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers,     

        regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.  Ability to write speeches and articles

        for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.  Ability to effectively present

        information to top management, publics groups, and/or boards of directors, including proposals and

        educational programs.



         Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, fractions,

         proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic

        algebra and geometry.  Elementary use of computer spreadsheet programs.



         Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where

         only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written,

         oral, diagram, or schedule form.



        While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, reach with hands

        and arms, talk or hear, and taste or smell.  The employee frequently is required to stand and use      

        hands to finger, handle, or feel.  The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and

       stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. 

       Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to

       adjust focus.



         This position could require use of "Handle With Care" restraint procedures as a last resort for

         protection of student and staff.



         While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to outside weather

         conditions.  The employee is occasionally exposed to blood-borne pathogens and infectious

         diseases.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  Minimal local travel is

         required as deemed by supervisor. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be

         exposed to clients who may ask inappropriate personal questions, display socially unacceptable

         personal behaviors, use profanity and sexually explicit phrases, make insulting remarks or threats

         regarding appearance, age, sex, or race, exhibit defiance, dishonesty, and assaultive or self-

        destructive behaviors.
